What food brand do I use?

My 9 month old 70lb OES/Golden Retriever mix -Gracie- is having eating problems. I have fed her Eukanuba since she was 3 months old and always liked it until the past 2 months, now she only seems to eat when she's hungry - She'll only eat about 2 cups of food a day- is this normal? Or is it the food? Also, if she eats ANY human food she gets ill (vomits). I don't feed her the human food, she steals itIt's also common for her to have loose stool for no reason that I can figure out. When her stool is normal, it's hard and dry. She also tries to eat anything she can get her mouth on (but doesn't chew up her toys). She eats socks, underwear, towels, carpet, etc. This behavior started about the same time she stopped eating her food, so I think there's a connection. What brand of food should I feed her? Is it normal for a 9month old to only eat when hungry?

No one food is good for all dogs. It depends on what she will do well on. It's difficult to say whether 2 cups of food is right for her. Is she loosing weight? Is she too skinny. Her growth may be slowing down, the food could be "off", she could be sick, etc. Too much food can also cause loose stool.

If she's been eating socks, underwear, towels, carpet, etc. it's definitely time to see the vet to make sure she isn't sick also ask for guidance on her food. Aside from being very expensive, an intestinal obstruction can kill a dog. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm ... 90&aid=285

I'll tell you what I was told... each time she gets something she's not supposed to have, you've rewarded her for bad behavior. You and your family need to be more diligent about picking up after yourselves or you need to closely supervise her when she has free-access in the house. If she's stealing food, keep it out of reach... if it's garbage, put it either out of reach or in a cupboard. I had a counter surfer and resorted to keeping some things out of reach by putting them on the fridge, in the microwave or in the oven, in the cupboard, etc. http://oesusa.com/AboutU358.jpg She learned to peel bananas and ate an entire cantaloupe- rind, seeds and all. The only one to blame was ME (and my husband).

Go around the house and put away everything that might appeal to her. Put all clothing away, dirty clothes in an area she has no access to. If you can't watch her, she needs to be in a secure crate or puppy proof room... but don't over confine her. She has to have time with free access to the house AND close supervision in order to learn GOOD behavior. You can't humanely correct the dog unless you catch her in the act of doing something naughty. You could also tether her to you at times. You may also need to determine whether she's getting enough exercise... boredom can also lead to chewing. Has she gone through puppy and obedience classes?

Hoping this is all just normal for her.
