Melatonin

With Fourth of July coming up quickly, I just wanted to mention this. Frankies PT is also a holistic vet. She mentioned to me that melatonin works very well in alot of dogs who have fear of noises. I guess it's very relaxing for them. I looked it up on line and it says it really seems to work well. I believe it said 3 to 9 mgs for large dogs. Please look it up don't take my word for it. I just wanted to mention it in case any forum memebers needed some calming relief. If it doesn't work for sheepie you could always use it yourself.

I never heard of it so Thanks! We have Bach's Rescue remedy on hand. Usually I need to give way more than the dosage says...I will look uop this melotin. Always like to ahve anything I can on hand...

We HATE the 4th of July here....
Bach's doesn't work for us anymore. Today was our first thunderstorm of the season and I hear fireworks outside now. Harry is already showing anxiety......I'll try the melatonin. Thanks.
Where can I find these remedies?
The older Brick gets, the more sensitive he gets to noises. I'm not looking forward to the 4th.
I'd almost like to drug him & keep him in la-la land over the long weekend.

Not to mention there's some jack-hole kids in the neighborhood who keep lighting firecrackers at random times of the day all throughout the year.
I could understand doing it during the 4th, but at 2 AM on February 13th? What's up with that?
And then after he hears one go off, he won't go outside unless I carry him out and stand out there with him.

You can tell he's really scared. He slinks around, kinda crouched, eyes wide open looking all around, up & down, and his tail is planted tightly downward over his butt.

It takes me about a week or so to get hime relatively comfortable with going back outside.....and then they do it again.

This last time it happened, I yelled out "if I ever catch who's lighting fireworks, I will wring your necks!!"
I heard a few more that night and decided to go for a walk. I found some punks sitting outside their house and asked them if they were the ones lighting fireworks. They said no. I don't believe them. I'm keeping my eyes on them and a few other houses.
Here in Michigan I get the Bach flower remedies at a Health food store. Some dog stores carry it also.
The Melatonin I got at Meijers yesterday it was in where they keep the vitamins.

Thats how Frankie is he is starting to get a little more jumpy with noises as he gets older.

ditto, ditto, ditto Also our rainy season begins now. Not only is it thunder and lightning that sets them off, but now RAIN......because they know it brings thunder.

OMG! That's exactly how Brick is. First it was just the thunder that riled his nerves, then the lightning, and now if he hears a heavy rain he gets scared.
The other weird thing is that he is afraid of the ceiling fan in the kitchen now.
I think he may think it's the source of the noise, so he's hesitant to go into the kitchen now.
:cow: We aren't there.....yet? There are enough fans going on here they may be immune.
