Serendipity

Over the years of writing on here most of you must know realize those weird serendipity things that seem to happen to me a lot...and today several occurred.

I rarely go out...in fact...I can count the number of times I've actually attended any functions in the last five years. Tonight, I made an exception as one of the most wonderful kind hearted souls I know was retiring. The event was being held at her best friends home.

Ironically, this woman, Lynda and her friend, Evelyn, were my eldest sons favorite teachers at HIS school and I say ironic- as when I started my new job 2 months ago - they were both at MY new school! The first day we exchanged hugs and realized Lynda lived only blocks away from my new place. Evelyn, where the party was held, was only blocks from my former place....(where Gilligan is currently). I've only met Lynda's husband a few times as he picks her up from work and thought they are the sweetest couple.

I was the last to arrive at the party and the first to leave. Her husband accompanied me outside and at that very moment a man walking an OES walked directly in front of their home. I wrote on another post they are extremely rare up here and besides my crew I haven't seen another in years. UMMMM that would be four years and I'll tell you how I know.

Her husband and I both look at the OES and he says "OMG!! A sheepdog!!! Those are my favorite dogs!! I say I have a couple...and he asked if they are rescues and would you happen to have one available? A few mins earlier he and I chatted for the first time and I mentioned my house full of rescues. You see where this is heading don't you? I say I will call you both soon as I have to get home and take my guys for a walk. The wheels in my head were turning as this may be the perfect "retirement" home for Gilligan.

I get into my car and drive by the guy walking the OES....and on a whim I stop the car and pull over. I say hello and he says "I remember you! This is Hannah and you have Panda! They used to play together at the dog park. Hannah!!! Yes! Panda's girlfriend!
[I searched my photo icon and found my posted photos page 10 ...dated New Years Day 2004 of Hannah and Panda.] He continues -" I remember you telling me at the time that Panda didn't like men or having his ears touched but he allowed me to do that. What a memory!! I tell him I remember he and his wife were so instrumental in helping Panda get used to many people. However, he was the first man that Panda learned to trust and eventually that carried over to all males. We chatted for a bit and I got back into my car and thought about the irony. What were the chances that someone whom I met 4 years ago and with an OES would happen to walk by the home I was just leaving. Not only that but because the OES walked by at that exact moment Lynda's husband made that comment. A few seconds later the dog would have been out of sight as Evelyn's driveway has only a small glimpse of the street as it has large hedges surrounding their property. However, we walked outside together at that very moment the man and his OES were directly in front of the home.

If he hadn't walked by at that moment with Hannah I wouldn't have heard Lynda's husband say how much he loved Old English Sheepdogs. I love Gilligan with all my heart but I'm still not sure if my home is the best place for him. Right now he's at my previous home but what if the other two don't accept him? I only have that other place available until the 26th. I'm still willing to give it a try bonding the 4 dogs but perhaps all what occurred in those few mins was a sign? A wonderful retired couple that only live blocks from my new home. A woman whom I absolutely love and I know love animals and until today hadn't realized the husband loves sheepies.

Stay tuned

Fate steps in again....... I'm with you Marianne, that sequence of events happened for a reason and I think you know how this will probably end up. Leaves you with a 'space' to help the next lucky animal that comes your way........
Heck, who DOESN'T like a sheepdog? I think you're right, it's an amazing coincidence. Here's hoping that everything works out to everyones advantage!
Never doubt the "hand of fate".
Timing is everything! I truly believe that things happen for a reason. It would be wonderful if this worked out for Gilligan! Please keep us posted.
Hi Again,

Oh sheesh I must have been tired when I wrote this post last night...the date was 2006 but got the four years correct. Panda and Hannah are on page 11.
>>applies makeup to red face

Yes, I agree that fate may have played it's hand. I won't have time to try to bond the dogs this week as I'm extremely busy with year end at school and then race to and fro to both places still. However, in 2 wks I'll be off for the summer and will devote 100% of my time to all my critters and will try to set things in motion. Gilligan will have finished his meds and I'll have had time to view the interactions with the help of dog trainer friends. (I needed an extra set of hands to help me take Snoop, Merlin and Gilligan for a walk to observe how they react to one another).

I will continue to keep you guys posted.
