My Sheepie stares at the wall

Adorian which is my 2nd oldest does this thing where he just lays in front of a wall and stares right into it for i don't know how long. Then he will smell and lick on it. Then just rest his mouth open against it. Lol, I think it's the weirdest thing in the world

Any chance there's a critter in the wall?

Not to gross you out or anything...

On the bright side, at least he's not gnawing on the walls. We went through almost two years of THAT with our Evil Puppy. Thank goodness he's finally past it.
How old is he? My first sheepie started to "stare into space" and at things when he was fairly old. Like 13 years. I think they get some sort of doggy dementia...That or are you cleaning the walls with some citrus based cleaner?

I had the same thought. I once had a male OES, about 12, who would walk into a corner and stand there staring at the wall like he couldn't figure out how to turn around. They do seem to get confused in their old age sometimes.
This was one of the questions my vet asked us (does your dog stare at walls) when he was trying to determine if she was having either dementia of eyesight problems. She had literally walked off the edge of our deck and taken a bad fall :( Abby turned out to have had a serious UTI, that had among other things left her disoriented, but I remember that question as being one of the first things the vet asked.

The licking thing though, makes me wonder if your dog is just interested in the wall for some reason!
Wow! That's interesting. Yes he is 6 yrs old. I do clean the walls with Fantastic. I hope its no critters there lol. I will have our vet take a look at him for me.

I have not yet because they always tell me im paranoid because i call them up for an appt for every little thing that happens to my sheepies lol.
I will let you guys know what he says. Adorian does act kind of slow sometimes. Awww i hope my buy isnt losing it :(

ravenmoonart....im wondering the same thing lol
:clappurple: My sisters dog used to stare into the wall...I freaked my sister out by saying the house was probably haunted and the dog could see something she couldnt :clappurple:
lol ktb..i was thinking that he was seeing something i could not :)

The verdict is in :rimshot: Ashley is the winner!!! The vet gave me a little test to try and i cleaned another wall with the same cleaner and he did the same thing to that wall. So now i switched to an organic cleaner so he won't get sick from licking fantastic :)
Aha! I am the winner! :clappurple: Glad it is something so easy to fix! I know some cleaners ahve citrus and other fruity smelly stuff in them. Dogs love sweet stuff...I bet if you clean with vinegar and water no dog will go near the wall! I would think 6 years old is too young to start showing signs of dementia. My dog started at about 12...
Great idea Ashley,,,ill do the vinegar and water thing
Occasionally my girl Abby will stare at and even lick our DVD shelves 8O We always joke that she's "picking out a movie to watch when we aren't at home" The real reason, though (we realized after a while) is that we often lend our DVDs out...to homes with other dogs!
