UKC Weight Pull - Chewie and Biscuit with video

Friends of mine in the area (me included as a member) started a new UKC club - Red Pine Kennel Club. The inaugeral show was this weekend! :clappurple: The show was well attended and all went smoothly. The UKC rep had only good things to say for the most part - we got zero deficiancies! Said it was exceptional for a 1st show. The only somewhat negative comment was that the weight pull could have been in another building - however they noted that it caused no conflict or disruption to the conformation. However, the participants all said - don't change it. About half the 40 dogs pulling were in breed too, and they appreciated being able to keep an eye on those rings. Spectators liked being able to watch both too.

Saturday I was still sick (cellulitis in my leg, fever and a cold) and all dogs in general didn't do their best. Not sure exactly why. I know the carpet in this pull is flat and little nap - so not much traction for the dogs.

Chewie pulled an OK 1430#, and weighed in at 72#, pulling 19.86%, or 19.86 times his weight. For Chewie, over 20% is good, so he was close.

Biscuit had his 1st pull in competition this weekend. Saturday he pulled 1025# and weighs 84#, pulling 12.20%, or 12.20 times his weight. Very respectable for a new puller, 14 month old dog. :)
Qualifying pulls for a leg toward the 1st title are pulling at least 8 times their weight, so he got his 1st leg. :D

Sunday almost all the dogs really put it together. Many of them had personal best pulls ever. Not sure why as everything was the same as Saturday!
My cellulitis and cold were still there, but better. I had a little voice, but squeeky.

Chewie pulled a much better 1565# for 21.74%

Here are some youtube video links from Sunday:
sorry, don't know how to embed them... :(

Chewie pulls all weights at one methodical speed - just plugs along :D Each pull is with more weight - added 5 blocks or 135 #
The empty cart is 350# and eack block is 27# - just for your info!

And then Biscuit:

3 pulls for him. He is a bouncy, crazy boy. Same weight increments added. He really rocked. His best pull was 1970#, or 21.74% - he beat his "big" brother Chewie".

He is just figuring out that he needs to lean in and pull, that bouncing doesn't really work when it gets heavier - as these videos show.

and his 1835# pull -

Awards: Chewie Q and 1st place Sat, Q and 2nd place Sun
Biscuit Q and 1st place both days

They are in different weight classes.

Some of you may notice I had my green OES Health and research t-shirt on. I was so hoping to have my new Performance For Life shirt, but no such luck

The best puller this weekend was Casanova, a 5 yr old Papillon! He is doing fabulous. He weighs about 5 pounds, and pulled over 600pounds - his pull % was 77+ - over 77 times his weight! 8O
He is a breed CH, and also a competitve obedience dog. Talk about versatility!

That's amazing.

Bricky will cry & lay down if his cable gets caught on a dandelion stem.
Dawn,
Have you ever used Chewie to help move a disabled vehicle before?
That would be a great help when trying to move a car around the yard.
Mark -

Poor Brick! Our Riley would be exactly the same way.

No I haven't had him pull the car, but I always keep the harness in my Element..... 8)
...one never knows
