2 sheepdogs in dubuque iowa

Just heard through an aquantance on Facebook, that there were 2 OES turned into the local humane society. A female age 7 and a male age 3. Thats all I know for now.
We have 4 sheepies at home, so there is no way we could have any more on a permenant basis, but I need to go tomorrow and see these babies.

Anyone around Iowa looking to adopt? I will take pics and check out more backgorund. Any suggestions?

Erin, with Asterisk and Wendel,l lives there, I believe - the other side of the Quad Cities.
Hey, just saw this. Yes, I'm familiar with the Dubuque humane society. A few months back there was a turn in of a 9 year old and a 7 year old female OES. There is a breeder in the area who dumps her breeding dogs there.

I spoke with the staff there, they are very nice. They say they rarely put down dogs. I was surprized at how quickly the two older OES were adopted out. I'll email them to let them know if they have difficulty re-homing the OES to let me know. I volunteer with the Midwest Old English Sheepdog Rescue.

Thanks for the tip!
Im gonna go see them after lunch. I have heard great things about you and your rescue. You just placed Sadie in South Bend if I am not mistaken. Such a tragic story about their poor Linus.

My wife is out of town and I told her the HUMANE society had 2 OES, I think she is a little nervous. There is no way I would get another, we have 4 now, But it won't stop me from helping to find good homes for them.
Please keep me posted!! As I mentioned before, I have spoken with the Dubuque Humane Society, and they really are wonderful people. They do a good job take care of the dogs that come in.

Thanks for stopping in to see them!!
went to see them after lunch today. the male was gone, as he had been adopted already this morning! :clappurple:

female is 7 1/2 yrs old. Needs a good bath, but is a lover. So sad to see her. She sat there and got her paws going to shake. I would guess her weight to be about 50 pounds. very sweet disposition for the little bit that I was there.

right across from her Kennel is a full grown St bernard...another big lover!

Couldnt stay long as I wanted to take them all. Even the 2 pitbull mixes were adorable.
What good news that the boy got adopted! :yay: :yay:

I had a feeling he would go quickly, since he was so young.

Did you find out the name of the girl? With luck, she'll go quickly, too. Even so, I'd like to keep a eye on her to make sure there doesn't become a space issue.
her name is Jazabelle...Im trying to get the pics off my son's phone to upload them.. pics didnt turn out the greatest...we were pretty tight on time
Here's a couple quick pics we took with cell phone. Didnt have more time to take her out of her kennel unfortunately. Wednesday, will have more time and maybe take her for a walk. She seemed very sweet.

keep a seat open for her ride home with you. :-)

I wish I had more time to visit with her today.. She is sweet. Wednesday after work I am gonna go back. If she is there I will take her for a walk and get a video to post.

I am also gonna offer to pay the adoption fee if they have a good candidate to adopt her. I think she was recently spayed, but she hopped right up against the gatewith no discomfort. She displayed no barking, nipping or submissive/shy behavior while I was there. I wish I had more time today.

You're terrible!!

I know I could offer a foster home if she needed one. I already have two OES and Wendel is definitely a momma's boy. She is beautiful though, I'm a sucker for a brown-eyed girl!

Please take more photos and pictures, the more exposure that she can get, the better her chances of adoption!!!

Are you still planning on seeing her today? If so, let me know. I plan on driving to Dubuque on Saturday to see her if she's still there. With luck, she'll be adopted quickly!

I'm so happy for her! If you catch wind of any other OES at the Dubuque shelter, please let me know. I'm trying to find out if it's the same person who is dumping them off there. When I called about the first two I saw a few months back, it was a breeder who said they were too old to breed so she brought them in.

I just can't understand why she didn't rehome them herself... grumble, grumble...
Oh, NO! Look at the email I just got :( :( :(

Jazabelle was adopted and returned within two days due to the husband said the dog was too big.

Too big?! She's only 50lbs!

I guess my view of big is skewed though... mine are 75lbs and 88lbs respectively

They don't seem big to me!!

I'm going to see her today, with luck, she'll be adopted soon!!
GREAT news! Jazabelle is adopted! Josh and I went to see her at the humane society. What a sweet dog :hearts: :hearts:

A co-worker of mine has been looking for a dog for awhile now. She had three elderly dogs that have passed away within the last two years, her last having died around Christmas. Looks like Jazabelle will be very happy with her!
JEEPERS.....thats just crazy..she was not a big girl! Glad to hear it all worked out in the end..I have heard of a few dogs being returned...it just seems crazy.

I know there are adoption fees when they get an animal. I hope to god they don't get it back when they return the animal.. People like that are Quakes and don't deserve the animal or their money back!

Let us know how jazabelle adapts to her new home
Here are pictures we took yesterday of Jazabelle

Oh, what a cutie :hearts:
Wishing her a wonderful, loving and stable life.
She looks like such a sweetie.
All the best to her and her new family.
