1st Agility Match!

Heart competed in her first Agility Match yesterday! It was very small so I felt more relaxed than normal. Her first event was JWW. She went under the tire, clipped the first jump, begain to go into the tunnel the wrong way, so I called her out (which I really shouldn't have), then she went to the fencing and began sniffing around. At that point, I thanked the judge and left the ring.

After a long wait, we went in for Standard. She completed her first jump, blew the weaves, (just walked past them), clipped the double jump, navigated the tunnel, success on the A frame AND the dog walk :clappurple: :clappurple: BUT...we got to the teeter, I told her to walk up, she stopped, turned around, sniffed and PEED!!!!!!!

The next (and last) dog, after Heart was Harry!!!! :phew: :phew: :phew:

Harry was so focused on the ""toys"", Heart's pee did not distract him. (he did very well!!!! Heart was very impressed):clappurple: :clappurple:

THANK YOU to Judi~~ for supporting me and being there with encouraging words and helpful suggestions. I would not have the courage to do this alone!!!!!

I found this first time in the agility ring to be very positive and I think Heart enjoyed it too!!! Except for the fact that is was very humid and about 90~~with Heart being fullcoated, I was worried about her getting overheated, but was able to keep her under a tree and she handled the whole day very well~~ Of course, Judi and I got sunburned....

A funny!!!
At one point during our wait, Heart somehow managed to roll her crate, 4 times, which was very amusing to say the least!!! The look on her face was priceless!!!

In a couple of weeks we go into the Obedience Ring for the FIRST time!!! That should be VERY interesting!!!!!!

Val, do not take this the wrong way, but... PEEING ON THE TEETER?! I feel your pain as I thought this is something that only happens to me with Patch!! Too funny. Several years ago Patch held up an entire Easter parade while she had to stop and "go," and it was not pretty while I was running around picking it up (a friend took pity on me and helped). I was mortified. Anyway, congrats for taking the plunge, I would have been proud of her.

Judi, is that Harry's camouflage hideout to sneak up on unsuspecting squirrels and other dangerous wildlife?
Denise...Heart would not attempt the teeter..she veered right, sniffed and then peed!!!  ...It would have been funnier if she would have peed ON the teeter....

It was a learning experience for BOTH of us!!!!!!
WOOHOO Heart! I think Mom should get you some more bling to celebrate :) And Harry turning into a superstar :clappurple:
I was particularly proud of Val. After Heart ran around the ring in JWW I thought for sure I wouldn't be able to get her into the Standard ring. But she did and she got a chance to see that Heart has a lot of potential.

Val also got to see plenty of dogs running loose in the Excellent ring so that she realized even the "top dogs" do embarrassing things.

The rolling crate was hilarious. I could see it about to happen but I was over twenty feet away moving all of my crap to the new shady spot where we moved Heart so my hand were full. I yelled to Val who was going to get her chair to move it. She turned around in time to see Heart lean against the one side of her soft crate forcing it to roll over on it's side. Then as she panicked it rolled onto it's top and then the other side and then one more time to land upright. She poked her head out of the open top with a look on her face like "What the heck just happened?"

Val handled it very well. No fussing over her just talking to her as if she had asked Heart to do that and praising her. Talking to her several minutes. Then finally letting her out of her crate so that she didn't associate it with being let out after the "scary thing". Heart went willing back into her crate after her twenty minute break of being out of it. Good job Val. :high5:

BTW - Harry had a very nice JWW run and just a so-so Standard run. However he was a very BAD BOY at the start line. :( I am not sure he is ever going to settle down.
Wow Heart you are soooo clever.
Tiggy just scratched holes in the screen of her soft crate, you managed circus tricks in yours.

Val, you do realise that if you train Heart to do this on command you have one of THE MOST AWESOME dog tricks ever.
mim!!! You are sooo funny!!!!

But a great idea...scrap the agility, rally and obedience.....go for a circus act!!!!!!
She would be able to pay me back for
her many, many classes ((and the gas to get there) !!!!
Congratulations!! I'm NO where near being able to compete yet with Asterisk. I hope to be able to attempt competition next year. If Asterisk can do half as well as Heart did, I'll be happy!!
How funny....the crate rolling does happen. Chewie about tipped his several times this past wekend. He has had this crate for years (soft crate), so you'd THINK he would know not to lean on the outer walls.....

Simon actually did roll his once. It was at the Waukesha show. He was in his soft crate on the upper level, and when we came back some nice lady said "your basset rolled his crate, but we put him back rightside up"
Quite the smart obedience dog...lol
