Oh my...another one with a scary posting...in LA

I'm guessing it's LA...Louisianna. I'm not from the US, so forgive me if I got it wrong.

Anyone know anyone there? Her name is Queenie.

You are right - it's Louisiana. They have parishes, so that's the big clue for me!

That dog is adorable :)
and I hope someone down there can make sure she's safe.
I sent the listing to all 3 of the Louisiana OES
rescue contacts listed on the list late last night.
I haven't heard anything...
Did anyone call to see how much time she has left?
I have NOT.
It looks like they euthanize on Fridays due to space...

Geez... that's depressing...

Does ANYONE think they can help?
I called and left a message.

I'll take her in Chicago if it's possible.
I have moved this to the Dogs in Danger forum and Tweeted about it.
Where is Wynette?? She may be able to pull and help.....
I can help. I am in Houston which is about 250 miles from St. Martinville, LA where she is located. I am currently fostering a 2 year old and will be getting her sibbling (not blood related) 10 1/2 year old brother on Saturday for TXOES Rescue. Princess has been with me for about 10 days so far and Einstein will be with me for just a few days until their transport comes to pick them and take them to their new forever home in Woodstock, IL.

Let me know if you need any help getting her or providing a foster home.

Michelle

PS. I am going to tell Princess & Einstein's new furever home Mom about this website. Hopefully she will be able to meet up with some people in the Chicagoland area.
I would email them and call ASAP if you are able to help...
Looks like this baby needs help out now!
Thanks for stepping in to help!
I have just left them a message as well as sent them an email. If anyone hears anything please give me a call - I will be away from my PC most of the day. My number is (832) 334-3901. My Mom and I can go get her tomorrow. In both my messages that I left will them, I said that I can put a deposit down to hold her until I can get there on Saturday. If I hear from them sooner, I can possibly go today just need to rearrange some things that were planned.

I will keep calling them until I get thru to them. Hopefully we can save her.

Michelle
I never got a call back. Anyone have better luck?
I tried to call and left a message saying I would follow up
with an email because the return call would be long distance.
I sent the email a few minutes ago...
:crossed: :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:
Queenie is safe. Mom and I are going to pick her up tomorrow. For all that have tried to e-mail or call, Carolyn and Monique both confirmed that the service is down and they know that the phone messages are full, we lucked out and saved her.

What is odd is they call her Mick at the shelter.
:clappurple: That's excellent news!!! Safe travels and keep us posted.
Whew... :phew:
What a relief!

I'm so glad she's safe!! :yay: :yay:
thank goodness she or he need to get out of there
That is wonderful! :clappurple: :clappurple:

Good luck on your trip. I really like doing transports. My granddaughter Bre used to go road tripping w/ me - until she had to start kindergarten! :(

I like Mich better than Queenie. I like Queenie, but it was the name of my grandma's old old dog from when I was a kid. And she was a tiny yellow lab mix. Just doesn't fit an OES in my mind!
Ooooh!! That's wonderful news. Thanks so much! :clappurple:
I had tried to call a couple more times but just got the recorded
message... I felt kind of queasy thinking it was too late.

Have a safe trip... and thanks to you and your mom for taking part of your Saturday to see to it that she'll be safe.
That's awesome LuLu&Michelle!!! Wow. :clappurple:
We are heading out tomorrow morning hopefully at 7 am, I'd go earlier but my Mom has a lot of animals to get organized that early in the morning. A big thanks really goes to my sister in Austin. She is the one that kept pressing redial on her phone while she was working and fortunately someone finally answered. From what they told her, their phone system isn't working so well and their email is down as well. Queenie time was going to be up at 5:00 pm today until my sister got Queenie a "stay of execution." Thank goodness as I was already getting sad thinking about what could have been.

I have been working with Texas Old English Sheepdog Rescue as well as Houston Shaggy Dog Rescue (my Mom does foster work for them) so between these 2 rescues, I hope Queenie will find a furever home quickly once I know she is healthy and know what her personality is like.

So tomorrow I will have 5 OES and my other dog at my house - 3 of which will be fosters. I hope I can get a picture of all 5 and if I do, I'll post it on here.

I will post when we get back home. Please say a prayer that everyone gets along.

Michelle
I've been reading these threads, in particular this one and the recent rescued dog in B.C. Let me say I am very impressed by what people here are ready to do and are doing to help dogs in need. You are wonderful people. Good luck!

Fantastic! Thanks so much for helping her -- and all the others too. :clappurple:
Excellent news!
WOO HOOOOO!

One favor if possible--- bring a C A M E R A please! :D
This is awesome!!!! :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:
Yeah :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:

You guys are wonderful.

Queenie is safe and we are finally home. I am so sad as the shelter she was in was very small and the facilities were horrible. Right before we arrived someone just tied their Chocolate lab to the fence post and left. He was an awesome dog. Then we looked at some puppies that were in an outside run and right in the middle of the run was a dead kitten. Someone most likely threw the little kitten in the run sometime during the night. The folks at the facility were working hard but there are only a few people that work there. Today there was just one guy and it was in a very small town in Louisiana.

So now onto Queeenie. First she is not an Old English Sheepdog. She might have some OES but is mostly some type of terrior. She is a very sweet dog and let me check her teeth, ears and basically her whole body without making any kind of fuss -- in fact she wagged her tail. I just finished giving her a much needed bath and was great. Now the real big news is that I am pretty confident that she is pregnant. It is very obvious that she has had a few liters already and her stomach is quite big and hard. Her nipples are so big that I wonder how a puppy could even suck on them.

So the journey begins. I will take her to the vet on Monday to get her checked out and comfirm if she is pregnant and if so how far along. Then between my mom and I we will take care of her and get her and her puppies back to good health and then hopefully a furever home.

She needs a new name as her new life begins. I would love to hear suggestions. I have introduced her to the rest of the gang and that was a little tense as Ellie and Lulu are like "bulls in a china shop" and want her to play.

I will will post some before and after pictures soon. If anyone is interested, I can start a new thread with Annie's Story. So far I am liking Annie, Lucy, Katie for possible names but could really use some ideas.

Michelle
I'm glad you made it there safely and back.

I thought maybe she was a mix from the pics, but she is so sweet looking. Any new pictures? How big is she?

And pregnant to boot.....poor thing. I hope you get good (or at least decent) news when she goes to the vet and can safely deliver her puppies.

I agree she needs a new name. I like Annie the best of the ones listed. More pictures and some personality info as you get to know her will help.

:ghug: :ghug: to you for helping her!
Michelle, that poor pregnant dog would not have had a chance, nor her puppies, if you had not intervened. Thank you for taking care of these needy animals, their chances would have been nil without your rescue efforts.
This was a close one for all. Thanks for all you do Michelle. I know this isn't like any of the other names, but "Pheonix" struck me as out of the ashes or fire a brand new beautiful life.
Michelle, you and your family are my heroes!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU MICHELLE!
:roses: :roses: :roses: :roses: :roses: :roses: :roses:
Here are some pictures of Annie. These are before she got her bath and a good brushing but she pretty much looks the same just a little whiter, cleaner and smelling much better. I am trying to see if I can get her into my vet today.

I am saying my prayers that she is not pregnant but I have a feeling this is not the case and that she will be nicer to my dogs.
She's so cute! Look at that face :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
Oh she's so cute... keep us updated on whether she's pregnant!
What a cute dog. I hope your vet can see her soon.
And I'm with you hoping she isn't pregnant.
And if she is, it would explain a lot of her out of sorts personality (like being a stray, in a shelter/kennel, all the chaos wasn't enough  ) Can't judge a pregnant dog's personality as the "real" personality :)
I love the pic!! This is the first I've seen of you as well. What a great story so far.
She is very cute!! Thank you for saving this sweet girl. Please keep us posted :)
Annie and I just got home from the vet and the news is what I expected it to be, she is pregnant and heartworm positive. The vet doesn't know exactly how far long she is as he can't feel any puppies yet. After talking with my vet and my mom, Annie is going to be spayed on Friday. She is in much more danger going 3 more months coughing and vomiting from the heartworms than to let her pregnancy go any further. I am very sad that she won't be having her puppies but can't take the chance of her having complications if she were to go full term. I only have a part time job and start nursing school in the fall so the finances aren't there. Hopefully everyone will understand my decision.

So after her surgery on Friday, she will come home and then will start heartworm treatment 1 to 2 weeks later depending on her health. Once she is healthy, I will find her a forever home. I currently have 2 possible forever homes.

On a more positive note, she is starting to get along much better with my 3 dogs and the 2 OES that I am fostering. I bought her a new collar, tag along with a muzzle yesterday at Petsmart. The muzzle lasted about 2 minutes - she hated it and got it off but somehow in those 2 minutes she realized that the rest of the gang was pretty nice and not going to hurt her. Now she gets to enjoy the comforts of my home with everyone else, before she had to stay in the garage with the window unit because she was going after the other dogs. I have broken up too many fights and got bit pretty bad in one of those fights. Luckily they weren't going after me, I just happened to be in the middle.

Please keep Annie in your prayers! Thanks for all of your support.

Michelle
Michelle,

I feel your making the right decision. Giving her a chance at a healthy life is all anyone can ask for. Your a wonderful person, thank you for rescuing Annie.

Keep us posted on her progress.

Lisa and Frankie
Given the bad options, having her spayed early in the pregnancy is the safest. I can't imagine how tough it would be to carry pups and all the vascular demands of pregnancy and deliver being HW positive. That sounds like a death sentence for all of them, especially if she has a high HW load. :?

Hoping surgery goes well for her :ghug:
Oh, my. Yes, if she can be safely spayed (being HW positive), most certainly the best thing to do on so many levels. Our own rescue vet would do this in a heartbeat.

I have to tell you that you can't tell by looking at them that my bitches are pregnant until well after you can feel/otherwise detect puppies (we usually ultrasound). So either the vet doesn't know what he's feeling for and missed pups - which would be perfectly understandable, a lot of pet vets rarely see a pregnant bitch any more - or whatever is making her look pregnant is not due to an ongoing pregnancy.

She may have had a litter in the not too distant past. Poor girl doesn't need to be doing that again. Good luck treating the HW. She's very lucky to have you!

Do you have a rescue helping you with vet bills?? or are you "the rescue" Maybe we could do a chip in for this poor girl. I know I would donate.

I was thinking the same thing
Please let us know.
I'm very sorry about the pups. There will always be people who fail to do the right thing... the mother got a double or triple dose of indifference. Focus on getting mama healthy again so she can begin a better life.

This was an interesting article about Ivermectin only- http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?A=610 . I know Kathy's hw+ Dawson has improved significantly after a year of Heartgard... he was retested yesterday. She successfully did this with another dog too (which one Kath?). It's not always an option though.

Don't miss the link to the gross video! 8) It's not something rescues can do but maybe a pet owner in some circumstances.
It shows a veterinarian surgically removing heartworms. I didn't know they could do that...

Thank you so much for taking care of her.
You have made the right decision. It's sad, but those pups would have been in as much danger as the mom. She's lucky to have you with her, looking out for her and making the tough decisions.

Warm thoughts from Winnipeg. Hope her road is less rocky from now on. What a lucky dog she is to have found you. You are a true hero.
Any updates on this girl???
Annie's spaying was moved to Monday. All is going well and she is getting along much better with everyone except for the cats. She attacked my 15 year old cat yesterday but luckliy as soon as I heard Raggs scream, I was there in a nanosecond. Except for me getting scratched and pee'd on, Raggs was not hurt -- just frightened. Going forward, Raggs will stay in my room/bathroom where she stays 90% of the time so it won't be too much different from her normal day to day routine.

My two fosters, Princess and Einstein are getting picked up on Wednesday to be transported to their new home in Woodstock, IL. Princess is 5-6 years old and Einstein is almost 11 years old. I talked to their new Fur Mom and what a great life they are going to have! She can't wait to get them. Things should settle down once we are down to 4 dogs instead of 6.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and I'll start a new post under General Chit Chat called "Annie's Story" for those that want to follow her can. She clearly isn't in any trouble now well except for being put in a very long time out after the cat attack.
I'm so happy that Annie is doing well! :clappurple:

I keep thinking about her, I hope you take more photos and keep us posted!
