Updates

Thanks Everyone! Nice to see your happy faces again!

New job is similar to former one, except I work more hours, school is open for evening classes - so occasionally work those and I have way more freedom to do what I want. I'm encouraged to take students out into the community and so have joined a lot of my interest with students whom are interested in those kinds of things.

For example, I contacted a group that does environmental cleanups ( a crew of 10 young people and their 2 instructors) as I clean the ditches in front of my home every few days and try to rid them of horsetail which is poisonous to livestock. I don't have any livestock, but still care that the plant gets carried in the waterways.I also clean the ditches of garbage, and still mow my property with a push mower and weed that HUGE pathway daily - every thing by hand. Anyhow, I'm also bringing students from my school to join the group who are bringing a crew over to my home and spend 8 hours helping me work on the yard/ditches/surrounding area - so a win/win situation.
The crew usually charges a donation fee to attend but since all my cash goes to the animals they offered to do it free if I share my knowledge of plants/animals. Whoo hooo! I knew being a Jill of all Trades/Master of None would come in handy some day

I had the opportunity to bring a carload of students for a tour of the Humane Society and get them all to sign up to possibly volunteer there. So again, combining my interest with students. LOL this is of course another win/win situation as I'm always yacking to everyone that will listen at school about responsible pet ownership and have tons of pics of the various critters on my desk.

I had noticed another student (who is currently homeless, but staying with someone at the school), trying out some magic effects and mentioned I belonged to the International Brotherhood of Magicians and I could bring him to one of the meetings. So next week, I'm taking him and some others by special invitation to one of the magician meetings which is holding a Close Up Magic competition that same evening. Hopefully he will then pursue this interest further if he chooses this path.

The school is amazing and I adore all the students and staff. It's the kind of school where academics are important but the staff go over and above to not let these high risk teens slip through the cracks. They try to help all the students find something that interest them and give them a chance in life. They have a partnership with many of the trades/jobs and other things which helps them get established in life. The things I take them to, is considered my work hours which I can take in hours off during class times. LOL Just haven't had the chance yet as I'm so busy and never miss a day. I'm so happy to have a job which I bound out of bed to go to every day.

The school cupboards are full of food which were donated by the firemen and if a kid is having a bad day or is hungry - it's the freedom to make them a bowl of soup and just chat. I never had the freedom to do that at previous schools. It's a great school which sees the importance of kids souls. Many of the students view the school as a safe place and show up at night even if they don't have classes during the evenings.

The only drawback is that it was posted as temporary and so I have to reapply during the summer for the next school year and pray the school will get the funding to keep me. I am crossing my fingers.
I hope to one day have my place listed as a non profit animal sanctuary and combine student work experience with the sanctuary but lots of red tape and paperwork involved.

Lastly, some of you have asked about my son since his meningitis/brain surgery and thanks for that. He has experienced some cognitive disabilities..memory loss to name some. So still a tough road and heartache for me. If it weren't for that - my life would be all most perfect.

Marianne ~ You are a blessed soul. What great things you do with your life! For all those in the world that use their lives, talents and ideas just to benefit themselves you go above and beyond to make the heart & souls of others healthy & happy- critter and human alike. I think you are a wonderful person. Even when things go wrong or you have a bad day you always seem have others in mind first.

The world could use hundreds more people just like you.

So glad to see you back. I have missed reading of your adventures and your life in general.
What a wonderful job you have! It still amazes me how much you cram into your life. I wish I could make a serum of your energy and inject myself
