May 25th is Towel Day, an international holiday honoring the memory of the late author Douglas Adams.

Anyone else a Douglas Adams/Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy fan?!

I'll be bringing my towel with me everywhere on Tuesday. I actually ordered a swanky black utility towel with '42' on it!!!!

Yes, I'm a fan. I will have a Ghizant Awnik to celebrate.
You've always struck me, Ron, as the kinda guy who really knows where his towel is! :clappurple:

I want one of those #42 towels! Where are you ordering that from Erin? :plead:

Did I mention I also ordered a t-shirt that reads 'Don't Panic & Carry a Towel'? It's so AWESOME!

I get all my swanky, nerdy stuff at http://www.thinkgeek.com

I got a D20 necklace from them, the air-zooka, the blue glowing bionary watch (ultra SWEET, I LOVE it).

There needs to be more geeks out there!
Could someone (perhaps from the UK) give me a hint about something? Adams said that "Slartibartfast" was supposed to be as dirty sounding as possible without actually being dirty.

I can't think of anything "norty" to which it sounds similar. Any hints.
LOL Ok so not geek enough to get the towel etc but of course I knew exactly what you were talking about when I saw the topic and just wanted to reply "Don't Panic" so geek enough I guess.

I always thought it was something to do with flatulence...
I'm headed to a Hitchhikers themed birthday party this weekend. My friend is actually turning 42, and won't let anyone in if they don't bring their towel!

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!! I Love it!!! :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
I'm a fan too.

One of my students sometimes gets upset and freaks out. I drew him a little picture of a towel that says "don't panic" on it, and we taped it to his desk. He has no idea what the reference is, but he really thinks it's cute.
I got my "Don't Panic! and Carry a Towel" shirt on today, not to mention, that I have my clip on 42 towel. http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/science/8e20/

Anyone else celebrating Utility Towel Day? I got my IT person and one nurse wearing their towels!

Well, I'm printing all day today...so does a whole roll of paper towels count?

We are planning to re-watch the old BBC mini-series on DVD tonight, in commemoration! 8) The newer movie was ok...but the old series was closer by far to the feeling of the books, in my opinion.
I am not yet wearing my towel, but

DON'T PANIC
the day is young.
Does it really betray my nerd-dom that I'm SERIOUSLY contemplating getting a "don't panic!" tattoo?

Whew! Good... It'll go nicely with my original D Pad Nintendo tattoo
From Wiki:
Douglas Adams writes in the notes accompanying the published volume of original radio scripts that he wanted Slartibartfast's name to sound very rude, but still actually be broadcastable. He therefore started with the name "Phartiphukborlz", and changed bits of it until it would be acceptable to the BBC. He came closer to achieving this goal in the following episode, with the double-act Lunkwill and Fook. He adds to this statement in Don't Panic: The Official Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Companion, an analysis by Neil Gaiman.

“...One thing I don't think I explained in the script book was that I was also teasing the typist, Geoffrey [Perkins]'s secretary, because ... she'd be typing out this long and extraordinary name which would be quite an effort to type and right at the beginning he says 'My name is not important, and I'm not going to tell you what it is'. I was just being mean to Geoffrey's secretary."
