Agility Question

In obedience the way I've managed Tiggy's penchant for chasing and barking at anything that runs is to ask her to look at me. And while ever she looks at me she can manage to ignore running dogs. She will sit or drop beside me on the move but if we're still she starts to work her way around to a 45 degree angle and she "comes" back to to a front sit.

This is not really working at agility as it means she is inclined to come round in front of me. As soon as I get her to look at me so that she doesnt chase every dog as it runs through the tunnel, she wants to sit where she can see my face. Tonight the instructor kept telling me I need to get her sitting/standing beside me facing the same way I'm facing.

Any suggestions for managing Miss Reactive and getting her to stay beside me. I am using treats with my hand facing back behind me but if I dont give it to her quickly she starts to edge forward and around in front of me so she can see my face again.

Other than that ALL I have to do is get faster (snort) and work her further away as she's impressively fast. I love how the instructor makes it sound like such a simple thing.

Mim, my sheep herding trainer told me to stick my leg out to the side to keep him from pulling in front of me when we are walking into the field. Stupid I know but it worked. I use it for other stuff too. I would only treat her when she stays at my side.

Harry was crying the other night in class because he lies there for an hour and is the last to go since he is the only one in his jump height. Every time a dog went over the A-frame or the teeter he would wimper. I didn't want to start that nonsense so I told him Shhh or "settle" - my new word BTW that I am going to try using when he enters the ring. When he stopped I treated him along with a "good boy". After twice of that he immediately looked up to me when I told him "settle" I did not make eye contact with him just shook my head like I do at the library to remind him "this is not the time and place". He realized that no treat was coming so he turned back to watch the other dogs quietly. I waited a few minutes then told him "good boy" and popped a treat in his mouth because he was just sitting nicely watching the other dogs.

Maybe you can try using a DOWN with her when it is not her turn. Something other than what you use in obedience. When she is lying nicely by your side then treat her.
