Update on Frankie

Well we spent the afternoon at MVS. They listened to everything I had to say and what I have thought was going on with Frankie. They checked him over thoroughly. They think the x-rays that were taken Sunday are very inconclusive. So they ran a blood panel took 5 more xrays, and did a urinalasys. He just feels because as the internist says there are no documented cases of OES with collapsing trachea that it's not that. He really feels that it's some kind of horrible infection that he has had his whole life. Given all of the illnesses he has had since we brought him home. He even mentioned lung worm. He put us on doxycycline for 3 weeks. 300 mgs 1x a day. We wont know the results until tomorrow or Saturday. As of right now he doesn't feel it's life threatening.

We also saw an orthopeidic surgeon while we were there. He says Frankies hips are bad but he has seen worse. He suggests not doing anything until he starts to show some really noticeable signs that it's bothering him. He says he can dislocate it but highly unlikely. Just let him do whatever he is comfortable doing. When it's time we will know it and can take action. So that was at least on relief.
He can't believe the muscle tone has. yeah water therapy.

hmm, wondering if the vet is thinking something along the line of Erlichiosis which can remain in the body for years....... http://www.petplace.com/dogs/ehrlichiosis-in-dogs/page1.aspx

Frankie does have some symptoms. Hope you see improvement within this Doxy course to know you are on the right trail.
I really hope the meds work. Golly... he's had some challenges. :|
That's good news about his hips! It also gives you time to catch your breath.

Each dog is different and can react differently to the condition
but Panda's hips have been horrible since she was 9 months old.
(Panda and Madison are the same dog 8) )

She'll be 6 in October... she's still is not a candidate for an FHO surgery
because she continues to move pretty well. I don't know when it might
be required.

Hang in there.
:ghug:
I hope instead of collapsed trachea its something treatable. :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:
It sounds like it was really worth your while to go to the vet specialists.
I hope the meds work for Frankie .
Fingers and paws crossed here !!!!
Hope they get to the reason and can help him. I'm wondering if this is why he was getting into trouble at the day care. Maybe he wasn't feeling good and/or this was bothering him. Dogs can get "testy" when they don't feel well.
Actually there is documented cases of OES with collapsed Tracheas where they have been operated on to stich the side open for them to breath a bit better.
Poor Frankie--I have been out of the country--so a little out of touch. Did something else happen to Frankie?
