a very pregnant molli(old english sheep dog)

In have 7 year old, old english who is due for puppies any day now, to i think a black labrador, she is having real difficulties walking sitting laying down etc. We have been to a trip to vets today and been giver some calcium supplemants. Vet is saying she is a bit old for puppies, but he thinks she should be fine. I was wondering does anyone know if there is any specific problems i should be looking out for regarding old english sheep dog having puppies????

I can't help you there, but a really good book to have on hand is, The Whelping and Rearing of Puppies: A Complete and Practical Guide, by Muriel P. Lee ...it has pictures, and a great list of things to prepare for it. Is the whelping box ready, it should be a week in advance to have her use to it. Keep vet # and a Emergency clinic # handy incase you need an c-section at 3 am.

You need a ready box for the puppies to keep them warm. If this is her first litter, and being 8 yrs old...it will most likely be a wait and see. Most breeders have a litter after the dog is 2 and stop at the age 8 or earlier. If it is anything like a human, then I would say prepare for the risks of the older age...then you can have a sigh of relief after it went fine. OES are good whelpers, but each dog will be different. And what went well this time may not be next time.

Get the book The Whelping and Rearing of Puppies: A Complete and Practical Guide, by Muriel P. Lee , and get prepared. That's about all you can do, the book also will help you see a potential problem. Then after, it takes you through puppy life.
And hey, make sure you post many pics of these pups. I have a lab/OES mix and he's so adorable, many people have asked if I planned on breeding him (not possible). There may be a few people on this board that may be interested in your pups if they are not all spoken for!
Me! Me! Me! I want one!

I have puppy fever soooo bad and Pooh is sooooo darn cute!
How did she get pregnant??!!
Well, you see, when boy dogs and girl dogs love each other.......

I just have to let this out: 5 million dogs are euthanized in American shelters every year. Those aren't all of the dogs that can't find homes--vet clinics and "regular people" take in dogs too and many end up euthanizing them. Do we need any more being euthanized?? Spay and neuter!!

I am sorry, I just had to let that out. I am BIG on spaying and neutering and rescue. PLEASE GET YOUR DOG SPAYED 8), mollimooka_2000!!!
