A sheepdog can turn around even the worst of days

I can firmly say the last few days have really sucked!

Wife and kids wend camping for the weekend Friday night, they took the 2 pups. Since I had to work I couldn't camp. Saturday I flipped a coin if I should veg in my recliner or do Housework. Dam coin failed me. I rented a rug doctor and started shampooing the carpets. It was going really well. got the carpets done upstairs and moved down to the main level. Had the stereo blaring. it was going so well I was even thinking of stuff to do once the carpets were done. I planned on doing laundry, stripping the beds and changing the linens, finish the dishes etc etc. Thinking I was gonna be earning some serious brownie points when the wife got home.

When I started filling the rug doctor again I noticed I had some missed calls on my cell. The world came to an end. Got a call saying my wife's dad had a massive heart attack and passed away. A young 71, active healthy guy! Dead....

It was the 1st time my kids 15 and 12 saw me cry. My dear wife has lost both parents now. The past few days have been very difficult with making arrangements, etc. Wife and her sisters have been staying at her dad's house, so the dogs haven't gotten all the attention they are used too.

Today I took them out for a 2 hour walk. once we got back inside I started cleaning up the house for all the people who have been stopping by. As I was sweeping the floor..A PUDDLE OF PEE....WTF we were just out for 2 hours! so I go around the corner to grab a towel and there's Simon, the pup, with a loaf of sweet bread. I said What the hell! He looked up at me with a slice of bread hanging from his chomps. Wish I had my camera. It was the 1st time I laughed in 4 days Crazy dog! ...and NO I did not leave him finish it!

I am so sorry to hear about your FIL. It is so hard when this happens ..one minute he's here, healthy..and the next....(I know, that is how I lost my mom to a anerysim) (msp).

You have each other to lean on in the difficult time..and you have the puppers to give you smiles in the midst of this tragedy.

I really feel there is a reason dog spelled backwards spells..God.

My prayers are with you and your family. :ghug: :ghug:
Oh, my condolences for the loss of your FIL. How nice to have the carpets clean.........

As for sweet bread thief, Glacier Pyr says, "I'm on my way......" She relieved me of a whole loaf in the time it took to put down my purse and kick off my shoes. Came back to a well licked wrapper. Sometimes these guys will drive you nuts as you laugh.......
I'm so sorry for your loss.

I'm happy to know that you can still smile at the antics of a sheepdog even under such stressful circumstances.
I'm sorry for the loss. I remember when my MIL passed away. We were devastated.

I think these dogs are what keeps us sane when the world goes upside down.
So sorry to hear of your family's loss.
I hope you still scored the browney points. And you're right some times they're at their funniest when being naughty.

Not a big score on the Brownie Points. Someone once told me, Brownie Points are like Fish, you have to use them right away or they start to go bad! :?

Given the situation, I just let them slip away. Today is gonna be really difficult. Papa was a big Packer fan. As a tribute to him, we are all wearing Green/Gold.....YUCK!

He was a great man, very laid back, easy going and would do anything for anyone. He has touched so many hearts.

My 12 yr old daughter, plays the flute in Band. She asked last night if she could play Amazing Grace at the service...dang I shouldnt of typed that...Now I am crying again....GTG
Sheepies really do have the most amazing sense of humour and timing!

I'm so sorry your family have been through such a hard time. Did you swap the sweetbread for a nice treat?
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your fil. Strength to you in this difficult time.
so very sorry for your loss glad you have the fur kids to keep you together
I am so sorry. Least you can go hug a dog when things get too bad.
All the best on such a hard day. :ghug:
And its true about brownie points

Yeah, that made me cry too.

Sorry for your loss.

When my Mom died, Simon let me hold him close and that did help.
1st night is over. Now for the funeral tomorrow.

Tonight was nice/ Kind of a celebration of his life, rather than mourning his death. Lots of his former cowerkers, neighbors, card partners came to tell stories. He was a Greenbay Packer fan So we all wore Green Bay Jerseys, even though my family are Chicago Bears Fan. he was such a Great guy it was worth wearing yellow for a day.

Daughter got cold feet toward the end and didnt want to play the flute, I was afraid she would regret it down the road, so I took her off to the side so nobody could see her, and she knocked out an AWESOME Rendition of AMAZING GRACE..It was very moving!

Our Son took a bunch of old Photos and put them on CD and had them playing on a screen for those in line to see. It was a steady 4 hours of non-stop visitors, but it was better than I had anticipated.
My kids were his only Grandchildren, Most of the Card Partners said how he always talked about his grandkids....HE WAS A GREAT GUY!

Tomorrow will be a LONG day putting him in his final resting place.

Thank you all for the kind words, the sheepies defiantely have their clocks messed up. It is now after 11 pm and they are WOUND UP! Ill give them til midnight then Lights OUT!
Hope you all get some sleep.
So great of you to take the time to help your daughter to get through a difficult but rewarding effort for her grandpa and his loved ones.
I'm so sorry for your family's loss. I always ithink t's wrong for a parent to die. Even though I'm over 50, my mom is still my mommy at times. I hope today goes well, and I bid you peace.
So very sorry for your loss. Special thoughts and prayers for your family as you go through this difficult time. :ghug:
