Rudy walked with strange dogs today!

Today was our third session with Rudy's behaviourist. Last Sat we went to her house and his dog aggression was so horrible he wanted to eat all other dogs on sight. I felt awful, and so discouraged, although by the end of even that session he was doing better.

She came over on Monday night and gave us instructions on collars, how to walk, and changed a number of in house rules and routines, leaving us with lots of homework.

We worked on her tasks daily. They almost sit (Rudy does...Hudson will only be blanket adjacent...stinker) on the assigned blanket space when directed to now. No more climbing on us...must be invited (yes, we can still snuggle by invitation!). Regular walks with strict rules, Rudy in the Ilusion collar, and Hudson in a haltie. No human being should have to get up at quarter to six, but that's the only time we can do this right and give it the time it needs, so that's what we're doing. (Must include both of us walking, and be right before a meal. Hudson has tummy issues and has to eat three times a day. This is the only time we're both home together to feed the dogs.)

Today we went back to her house and worked for an hour with two of her dogs and both of ours. Most of the time Rudy walked along with a "pack" of four...two strangers (one the cutest four month old apricot coloured husky cross pup with eyes the colour of MILK chocolate...OMG. I am in love) and Hudson. He fussed occasionally, but had tons of success. Two strange off leash dogs came up, and he barked, but was easily put in a sit, and walked away without further ado. Not once did things get scary...

We still have more sessions and a lot more work to do, but at one time I was holding four leashes in my hand and NO ONE GOT FUSSY AT ALL.

I had to share. I'm so proud of Rudy. He's doing great. And I'm so glad we decided to go the one on one route. Obedience classes were just making his problem worse as they didn't address his specific issue. He can go back when he's all better, but for now, this is great. (Just wish we hadn't prepaid for the other sessions as he's missing them, but oh well...that's life.)

Good boy, Rudy!! :clappurple: :clappurple:

And kudos to Mom and Dad for committing to getting up extra early to work with him. :clappurple:

So glad it's working so well!!
Good boy Rudy.
I remember your stories about early morning patrols to bark at the newspaper? delivery person.
Glad you finally succeeded in getting your uprights to take life seriously and get up early. :D
Hooray for YOU and Rudy :clappurple: Both of you needed some new ideas.
I'm SO glad for you guys! Isn't it a HUGE relief when the training starts to take, and the problems being to show signs of being manageable?! :clappurple:
That's great news ........I'm still following Rudy's Blog and thought how brilliant it was that you are getting up so early to help him :)

That sounds great! I'm sure the walking is making a huge difference. I'm tired because of Ru's training too, I've been close to tears this week just because I'm shattered, can barely go on and guess what? I need to walk Ru!!!
Good news! Small improvements are the best as it means they are cementing into his behavior!
Good for Rudy!
