Heart is such a sensitive soul..

If someone knocks on the door or rings the doorbell....in the back yard, when someone is walking in the alley...or any other time a 'normal' dog would bark....Heart never does~~~

BUT.......Lately, Heart has taken to barking to excess in certain situations.......when....

I come home from work~~As soon as she hears the key in the door, she begins and doesn't stop!!! It continues........

When she is going out the back door~~This is the worst!!!!! All three dogs are at the back door waiting for me to open it, generally Heart is closest, followed by Coz then Pearl waiting patiently. She jumps up, clearing the doorknob all the while barking. As I open the door, she automatically sits...

When she wants Cosmo's toy, bone, etc.~~~This is VERY aggrevating!! Coz will be chewing on a bone and all of a sudden, Heart will decide she wants it, so she gets in Coz's face and barks, until he drops the object and walks away.

When Dino is playing with them~~~ especially in the morning before he leaves~~~IF Dino pets and talks to either of the other two, Heart will just bark!!! ALOT!!!!

She is almost three years old. I thought that I had handled all of her 'issues', but, I guess I am wrong!

I have been ignoring the behavior and waiting for her to stop and then I praise!! She is NOT getting it...

SO, this morning, as she was barking at the other two for Dino's attention..I couldn't take it anymore..(woke up with a bad headache!) Anyway, I yelled, screamed in the deepest voice I could muster at 6AM NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Well...I don't know if her reaction was good or bad.....She looked at me, very 'sheepishly' and immediately went over to her tuffet, grabbed baby and began to paddle and suck.....

Any opinions???? Did I scar her for LIFE??????????? (she hasn't barked since, did I CURE her????)) :clappurple:

Tiggy does this too, when I get home, when I get her lead out, when Rastus comes in the back door (he is getting in the habit of just standing in the doorway looking tragic, he hates it when Tiggy barks in his ear)

If it worked please record a copy and send it to me to try on Tiggy. All my shouting has been to no avail, she just thinks I'm competing in the loudness stakes.

I would love to get these to together~~~ They are made from the same mold~!!!!! Come for a visit!!!!! :clappurple: :clappurple:
My hubby asked me this morning if all sheepies bark as much as Violet....
While bellowing is done here, generally getting up and addressing the situation with less volume is the preferred way. Your bellowing is just adding to the house noise. This brat is trying to take over control of the group, even telling you what to do. When this happens take a few minutes, tell her no and don't walk away. Stay there, calm, waiting for her to realize you are not backing down from your command. One of you will have to yield ground, it must be Heart. Do not continue telling her NO, once and presence should work.........OK, it is Heart, she may take two NOs
I doubt you scarred her ..... otherwise she would have fear peed before going to suck and paddle on baby.

But I must admit this behavior is annoying. Mopsy started doing it at a little older than Heart.

One of the stupidest things she did when it came to the barking: When she wanted to go out she would stand by the back door. This was something that was never a problem except at night and only if Brian, Jack or me would let her out - then as she was going through the doorway she would bark like a mad dog. We got so sick of listening to it that if she asked to go out after dark we would call Tim to do it.

I bet Heart can't top that ridiculous behavior.

Poor Heart, I guess she didn't expect that from her softy mother. Let me know if it works, I've tried everything for the loud one in my house.
Kisses to Heart   She's just being a B**ch.

Around here Jack is our loud mouth, it still takes a shhhhhh from me and "the evil eye" but he backs down......all the way to the floor.
Violet is a barker...she wasn't for the first two years of her life, but since then she has made up for it, believe me. Asia is also a barker and she likes to roll her rs. So as anyone can imagine the sheepie bark and the aussie rolling "r" bark can cause all kinds of thoughts rolling around in my head. :evil:when I'm trying to take them out with me.

I've been working really hard with both of them to get them to stop barking so much. The going to the car barking has almost totally stopped. What I did was walk toward the garage door, as soon as the barking started I would stop and fold my arms and wait. If they stopped barking we moved forward, if the barking started we stopped again. It took months but it is sooo much better now. When Violet gets in the Van she barks and I haven't figured out what to do about that yet, but she only barks until she sits down. The morning barking is the worse with Violet...she is so excited that I'm getting up to feed her she does her happy sheepie dance and barks the whole time. Very hard to take in the morning. I don't yell at her and haven't, I'm not a yeller and don't like to raise my voice, so I try and tune her out. Sometimes she will proceed to bark as she is eating. So I guess at almost 8 yrs old we will continue with our barking mornings. Thank God Asia doesn't bark in the morning. China rarely barks at all, tg. :)

Good luck with Heart...miracles do happen. :D
^^^^^^^^^^

I too have tried many things, and nothing seems to help! This morning, was just too much!! I just couldn't control myself...

I am sure tonight will be the same routine..she hears the key in the door and the noise begins. I will be trying the suggestions here, of course, hopefully something will fix this!!

((It is funny about Asia and her rolling rrrrr's..Heart does that when I ask her to speak softly...it is soo cute...))

that girl know what buttons to push...and I AM a pushover with all of them, but Heart.....just looking at her makes my heart happy!!!!! ya think she knows this????????
One thing that is starting to get through to Tiggy is squirting water at her. I'm only using it for when she chases Rastus around the living room barking in his ear and making him all stressed and upset. I dont want to do it so much that it doesnt work anymore as that's what happened with other things I tried.

I stood outside the door for over 10 mins one night, 8O because she barks at me when I get home. I would open the door she would bark, so I would close the door, she would stop. I would open the door she would bark  , I think you get the picture. In the end I just figured she thought it was a neat game and she could make me close the door just by barking so I gave in. 'Sides I was cold and hungry, as just home from work and I really wanted to get in and get dinner started. :(

I tried a spray bottle with her it worked 3 or 4 times and then she just started running around the living room and barking at the spray bottle whenever I squirted her. I didnt have a water pistol but I have a syringe without a needle that I use to measure out medicines and such. So I filled it with water and I keep it close handy and when Rastus comes in the back door and she goes crazy at him I squirt her in the ear (if my aim is good :D )

So far it actually seems to be working. :cow: But I've only been doing it for about 5 days, still its longer than anything else I've tried.
Oh yeah, I use the squirt bottle. Gar just barks and barks at Simon and it gets to the point that I either kill the dog or squirt him with water.

Since I'm really fond of this barker :hearts: I decided that killing him was not a good idea...and the water works...for about thirty seconds.
