My 1st thought is that he's in some pain?
Trainer is thinking adolescense. You should never put 10 dogs together and not expect a fight.

What do thyroid issues do?
I thought I had saw a post on that once on here.

Hypothyroidism is thought to be a contributing factor to some behavioral problems in some dogs. But are these actual fights or just other dogs telling the rude baby sheepdog off? Because make no mistake, most self-respecting dogs of other breeds consider many of our finest rude and pushy to put it politely.

They said he started 3 fights that's about all I know
I cant see it happening but I wasnt there.
I'll find out more tonight

When Barney was about 2 he was kicked out of his daycare for being 'aggressive'...I never believed it, but like you said, put 10 dogs together and there's going to be scuffles. I have no suggestions though
Did I read a post right.....Ten Dogs? Ten dogs is ALOT of dogs. I remember Frankie just having some major surgery...Ten dogs is a PACK. Fights can easily develpp when there is a pack of this magnitude. We all remember that dog on the forum that was attacked at day care and almost died...I forget the dog's name now but it was bad...He was bit over 50 times and the owner was called and when she appeared at the day care, her dog was lying in a pool of blood almost dead...

So....if frankie was having some problems at his day care, I would keep him out for now. I am not sure I would blame him for the fights. Maybe he was defending himself. Are you familiar with the other dogs in his day care? Has he ever shown any agression before? You know we all might blame our dogs when it really is not their fault...Not all dogs can get along with all dogs. And there is NOTHING wrong with that...We as humans tend to "humanize" or dogs like our children. Dogs at day care are not the same as children at day care.

Nothing says our dogs have to get along with every other dog and if they don't there is something wrong with them...I would keep Frankie out of day care a while...maybe there are some dogs there he just doesn't like...
Ok
So I pick Frankie up tonight and ask what happened. There were 2 dogs there and one was a little timid. Frankie wanted to play with her. She didn't want to play with him. So after being pulled out 2 times for picking on her the third time I guess he got really pushy and it turned into a fight. They said he was welcome to come back and try again since they know Frankie and Know that he haS never had an issue before.
As for his surgery, he was given the ok to play at daycare about a month ago by his PT and his surgeon.
His behaviorlist suggests he not play in large groups until he gets out of this age group. One on one play time is all she likes anyway. Maybe I need to take up jogging

I have never been a big fan of doggie daycare or dog parks for just this reason. Kennels I don't have a problem with. They are more regulated on exercise. When my dogs are around any other dog, even other dogs I have bred but do not live with me, I am always 100% on watching what is going on. Not every dog likes every other dog, just as there are some people you can't stand to be around. For Frankie's sake, I'd keep him out of daycare for awhile. And I'd ask about the supervision when they have a group play. My own dogs are seperated in their own kennels when we are gone for the day at work & they all know each other & have lived together for years.
I agree...no day care for a while. And that isn't to meand Frankie was bad or was the caue of any fights or anything. In fact, it sounded like Frankie was okay and the femlae he wanted to play with maybe was a bit skittish - for whatever ereason and maybe it was because of shyness, or fear or whatever but poor frankie just wanted to play...I'm not a big fan of day cares either and that is because I don't feel comfortable not knowing which dogs are socialized to be with other dogs, which dogs are shy and can become fear biters, which dogs have problems with other dogs. Like I said, dogs are not human and they don't have to get along with all other dogs. There is nothing wrong if they don't "like" other dogs...As humans, we don't "like"everyone we are forced to be in contact with..
How old is Frankie? Maybe he just needs some extra supervision while he is learning his social skills. If someone doesn't want to play, he needs to accept that. It's kind of a cop-out on the daycare's part to send him home. How qualified is the staff? Help him to deal with it, or reshuffle the groups. Are you able to make time to observe his interactions with the group when you bring him back?
I just dont like the fact they let 10 dogs romp together just a receipe for a dog fight to happen or an injury.

With frankie with all he has been through I would be very wary of letting him run free with a pack of dogs at doggie day care, another receipe for an injury to him even though the vets said it was OK, was not long ago he had his surgery and I would still be carefull of his activities so not to undo what has been repaired. Even more chance of an injury with letting him loose around 10 dogs because you say his hips are not great either a good chance he will do more to himself in that area with mad play.

Ask them if he has to go to daycare, supervised playtime preferrably with only one or two other dogs. Supervision is a must at these type of facilities with limited numbers out to excercise and play together.
Tonks and Luna go to daycare; its a huge space and I've seen them get as many as 25 dogs or more. But like I said, the space is enormous, so its never crowded.

Tonks will pick fights if I'm sick. Between my pneumonia last year and my surgery this year, its been a challenge. Let the dogs sit home with me unable to walk them or take them to the park, or risk taking them to daycare. Thankfully, the team at daycare know Tonks and Luna well, and recognized that Tonks doesn't usually fight with other dogs, so they were on the look out for what it might have been that was bothering her. Once we connected me being sick with Tonks fighting, it helped us to deal with the issue. Now if I drop the girls off for a day of play because I'm not well, I let the day care supervisors know. Sometimes they let my girls play in the group, and watch them for signs of stress. Sometimes they put them in a MUCH smaller play group; they say Tonks does better with fewer stimuli or stressors. And they take her for a few walks during the day, so she gets some one on one attention.

Since we figured out what was causing her to fight, we've managed to control the behavior.
