Starting to see results in my training (Agility)

Some of you may know that I made a big decision to go back and attempt to fill in the holes on my handling foundation.

This was an indirect result of having a horrible outing at our first trial of the year in February. I was so irritated that we were going backward in our progress and I felt that was because of having the winter off due to weather as my trainer trains outdoors. So I took a couple of privates with a trainer I had been trying to get into, signed up for an indoor class with another new trainer and did a drop-in with yet another trainer all in a matter of two weeks following that disasterous trial. It was supposed to be about Harry's lack of impulse control-over excitability. Yet all three trainers said to me, in the nicest way, "Oh and I can help you with your handling skills". 8O

I may be blonde but I am not completely stupid. :(

In the meantime the next session of classes with my regular trainer kept getting postponed due to rain outs. Not to be deterred I contacted my regular trainer and set up privates to start on my handling foundation.

Then a fellow student that I met at the new indoor classes helped me with the walk-through at the very next trial. She really explained what to do as a handler. That was our first Q five weeks ago. My indoor classes had just ended but I really saw how good that trainer was with teaching the handling. So I set up privates twice a month with her.

Today I really saw the results when classes finally started with my original trainer. She set up a really difficult but fun USDAA Masters course. As we worked through the course in sections the other teams were having issues with wrong courses but not my guy. He was with me and leaving bars up in the process.

I was also able to see some of the handling mistakes people were making that were responsible for driving their dog off course. That is not something I could see as easily before.

Harry and I practice the stuff we are learning for a few minutes of every day we don't have class. We still have such a long way to go but it feels good to see some of our work pay off.

Keep at it! Little steps add up to a solid foundation! Nothing worthwhile was ever learned or earned overnight

Great to hear how well things are going. I'm looking forward to getting as far as you have. :D
