Looking to adopt my 3rd OES

:D Wow!! What a website. Glad to see that a great site like this exist and that I'm not the only OES addict around here. Browsed a little bit before and I think I'm really going to enjoy what friendly people like you have to say. I previously had a female OES in 1980's for 11 years but sadly had to put the little angel (Nandi -named her after a little place in the Fiji Islands that I stayed at -which I considered the Fijians to be the friendliest people that I have ever met - and it suited Nandi's personality very well as she was just as friendly with everybody - human and/or animal) to sleep due to health problem (and it broke my heart).

In August of 2001, I was lucky enough to adopt 2 rescued OES (females)-aged 5 yrs and 10 yrs old. They grew up together and since I always wanted 2 and they did no want to split them up, I took them both and it was the best decision I ever made (for them and for me). Sadly in January 2005, Demi at 13 1/2 had to be put to sleep due to health problems and it broke my heart again. I am now looking for another sheepie to keep Dallas company (and myself also), preferably a young one.

I have contacted a few rescue org. and hope that one shows up soon as I find Dallas to be lonely and sad. These are 3 of the best dogs that I have ever seen and I hope that my next one is the same (one with special needs would also be welcomed in our house).

I have made contact with some of the recue groups and am waiting on replies.

I just love these angels to death and I will read and enjoy yours posts on a regular basis.

Here's a saying I love to use when people ask "why would I want such a big dog - or even 2 of them" - my reply is " If I have to explain it, you won't understand it"

Thanks, Pete :D

Your love for the breed and for Dallas are obvious. I wish you the best in finding your next rescue. It will be a happy day for all of you. :)
I hope you and Dallas find your new friend soon.... there is one out there somewhere just waiting for you to find it :D
I know how you feel about that breed, they are so special. We had a sheepdog for 12 years and had to put her down in Nov. We were able to rescue another and she is wonderful, though still working through bad habits, But we adore her, we also have a black lab 7 month old and big dogs are the best!!! take care, hope you get to rescue soon!!! Jan
Good luck waiting for your next furkid! :) I'm sure the right dog will come along at the right time, they always do
:D Thanks for the kind words of encouragemant. I'm sure one will show up eventually. I just feel bad for Dallas as she has spent her whole 9 years with Demi and now for the past 2 months, finds herself all alone. She has made friends with a few Corkies across the street but probably wonders why she doesn't have a live in playmate to share her house with.

But as we are both positive dog (sheepie) lovers, I'm sure the place will be noisier and happier than ever when the next one comes bouncing through the front door.

Welcome, Uncle Pete!

Boy oh boy, just reading your post makes me like you already!!!!

Have you contacted Grannie Annie of the NorthEast OES Rescue? She really has her finger on the pulse of the rescue circuit. You can get ahold of her on their website: www.neoesr.org

Good luck! Looking forward to hearing from you again soon!

Deborah (upright), Pirate (sheepie) and Keira (Australian Border Sheltie, et al)
:D Hi Deborah.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have contacted her - we have exchanged emails and she has put me on her list. Hopefully one will show up soon. I was also interested and inquired (check out the link - http://www.neoesr.org/other.htm ) about little Annie in Minnesota (she only has one eye) but they said new owners are coming to get her in April. I've also contacted them about little Frankie in Las Vegas and am waiting for a reply. Another application went to Heart 2 Heart down in Texas - waiting for a reply.

Unlce Pete :D

Good morning all. :D

Thanks again for all your nice comments.

I was just wondering that when I do find my next fluffly friend and if it happens to be in the States, is there a transportation network available that would make it easier for myself to drive down part of the way and then pick my new sheepie and bring it to its new home.

Thanks.

Uncle Pete.
Hi we adopted an OES in Jan, form a shelter in Louisiana, they even drove her here, actually a transport van did. Here is the email of the people who brought her to us, they traveled with many dogs from Louisiana thru I know to Maine with many stops to bring the dogs to their homes. They were great folks that do this all the time and they took great care of our dog. Here is her email dvg49@aol.com
, I hope they can help with a transport for you, hope you find your new friend soon. It cost us $150 Jan
Hi Uncle Pete-

Where do you live in Ontario? I live in MI and may be abe to help with transporation. I've also seen other posts where people volunteer to drive a certain distance and meet the next person who does a leg. When you find your new sheepie let everyone know, you may be suprised how many of us would help. Good luck(check out Darby)
I live in Northen Indiana, could help get them to michigan and bestdogsx4 for the rest of the ride home if necessary :D
This could work!
:D Wow! Thank you for the comments and your willingness to help out. I live in Ottawa and I will surely let everyone know when I do get a sheepie.

I believe that it will be fun and emotional to get different people involved in this rescue when the time comes. I'm not too crazy about putting a dog on a plane as cargo so its quite a relief to know that having sheepie lovers involved will also help the dog (as long as he/she doesn't think their taking him/her to Disneyland!!).

I'm still waiting on little Jeffrie in Las Vegas. He's only 4 months old so I'm not sure if it would be too long a drive for him and a flight might be too scary for him.

In the meantime I'm looking at all the other ones available for adoption.

Thanks again for your help. I'll keep you posted.

Uncle Pete. :D
Of course I must warn you I may get "lost" along the way and you may never see your sheepie
I like that.  Good one!

That's what I would be afraid of - if everybody's like me, everytime I see a sheepie I want to take it home. I wonder if I could then contact Amrecica's Most Wanted to find my sheepie.

In my previous post, I mentioned that Jeffrie was in Las Vegas but he's actually in Texas. Its actually Frankie (1 yr old male) that is in Vegas who I've also contacted them about and am waiting on a reply. Either way, I wonder if its possible to get one of them part of the way here with the help of different people driving different legs for such a distance?

I think I get just as big a kick taking them for a ride than they probably do. Just to see their reactions when they see other dogs, kids and when people see them in my van, they want to get in and play with them -which I'm sure they would love.

p.s. If you get lost with the sheepie, just let me know and I'll come and get lost too. I'm sure the dogs will love that - Road Trip!!

Uncle Pete :D
Hi. :D

Well I finally found a nice 13 month old male OES to adopt :D . He's located about 30 miles west of Philadelphia. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help in a relay to get him closer to the Canadian border. I live in Ottawa, Ontario and am only a few hours from the border.

I read in one of the posts that there is a picnic in that area on the 14th of May which I won't be able to attend. Unless I can have him transported before that weekend, it would be great if someone attending that picnic would be able to help out on their way back.

Here's a link to see him.

Thanks for your help and I hope that this works out. :)

Uncle Pete :D
Hi.

Its been frustrating this past week trying to arrange tranporation and a flight for Winston and then finally being able to do it by car but the owner decided that it would be to long of a drive for him and has decided to put him back up for adoption.

Thanks to who offered to help.

Uncle Pete.
