What's the dumbest mistake you've ever made with your dog?

We've had a "dumb sheepie tricks" thread...so how about a "dumb owner tricks" one? 8)

I'll start!

Eggbert, my beautiful, sweet boy, has one HORRIBLE habit...poo eating!

The only real solution we've ever had for it is to go out with the dogs and clean up immediately, so that he just doesn't get the chance.

Unfortunately, he is a quick little brat, and would sometimes dart in to grab Abby's stool, even as she was still pooping 8O . So, what do I do? I YELL, of course:

:!: :!: :!: NO!!! :!: :!: :!:

Soooo....who can already see where this is going? My poor Abby came quickly to the conclusion that I was yelling at her, and that she was: Not supposed to POO! 8O

   opps. I fixed this (after a bewildering week or so in which Abby would only poop if I wasn't watching) by taking them out separately for a while, and lavishly praising Abby when she went. Nowadays, I just strive to be quicker than Bert  . Luckily, it only takes a short time of "prevention" for him to lose interest, although he has several times over the years developed the habit all over again :( . *sigh*

Laurel thats funny, sometimes you don't have time to think about what comes out of your mouth. I had a foster that did that. I was told to put cayenne pepper on his poo. Didn't work for him.

Actually today we had a dumb husband moment :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

I looked out the kitchen window this morning and I couldn't figure out what Troy was doing in the road. I thought he had left to go to work. He was driving forward and backward along the fence line so Frankie could chase him 8O 8O 8O 8O

Frankie was having a hay day chasing daddy. So I yelled out the door at him(Troy that is) to stop.
Nothing like teaching our teenage sheepie to chase cars. :headbang:
I imagine there are so many that I can't name them all... In spite of "us" , Max is a sweetie, that forgives Mom and Dad's stupidity. :D
I'm kinda going along with Lisa & the dumb hubby moment...

After all the discussions about Lily being a counter surfer when we first got her & how we need to be diligent in keeping tempting things out of her reach.... one day I hear the kids laughing and the Hubs saying "Get the treat. Reach. Reach" (I'm thinking he's teaching a trick... stand on hind legs, or beg or something cutesy).

I walk into the kitchen to see Scott lining treats up and having them reach up & get them off the counter 8O 8O

SO MUCH FOR TEACHING THEM TO NOT COUNTER SURF

Bwahahaha!!!
That's exactly the kind of thing my Hubby does and then he gets all offended when I'm narky with him.

My best effort was forgetting to take treats out with me when I was potty training Tiggy.
For some reason it took ages for her to get potty training but it only took three times of me running back into the house for a treat after she pottied, for her to decide that all she needed to do was ring the bell, walk out, do a lap of the yard and then come back in to the pantry door.

She was very put out with me for not giving her a treat for that amazing feat. She tried it on for a couple of weeks. I'd go to bed at night and hear the bell and get up again just to enjoy the spectacle of Tiggy doing a lap.

I was soooo cross with myself!!!! It was dead obvious what I was training after the fact.
