Afraid to cut Hanks hair?!?!?

I have an OES mixed with maybe a BC or a beardie, and he his matting something terrible right now. His rear end mostly, and some on his sides.

He's about 7 months old, and the hair on his neck back and bottom is all long, 5-7 inches, but his head hair and his belly hair are bit shorter.

I really would like to give him a hair cut to ease grooming, but I'm afraid his hair won't grow back if I do....

Does anyone know what happens to OES mixes when they get haircuts?
These pics are about 2 months old...

Thanks!

I don't see why he wouldn't grow his hair back. I've seen all kinds of dogs, shepherd mixes, chow mixes, not to mention poodles and terriers, who have lion cuts due to mats.
I have an Old English/English Springer Mix and unfortunately ;-) his hair grows back... right now he looks like a shaggy wooley beast...
Wow he is a cute one.
What a cutie-pie!! :hearts:

My Nikki was an OES-mix and I had to continue to shave her down because the hair always grew back. She didn't like to be brushed (I didn't start her out right so she'd look forward to grooming :() but she always tolerated being shaved down.

I shave down my BC-mix too otherwise she gets too warm even if I strip out her undercoat. I only started shaving her down with a #7 blade about a year ago and she loves it. Her coat continues to grow back too.

That age is mat heaven. Even with being a mix I don't see any reason the hair won't grow back. I gave my golden an all over haircut once and the hair grew back just fine.
most breeds will grow back just fine, the trick is dont take them down too much. somtimes if you go too low it changes the structure of the hair folicle and where you may of had a smooth coat it will come back fluffy. some breeds this doesnt matter. if you stick to a 7f or a #10 at a push you will be just fine.
i clip down beardies, collies and oes and they all grow back ok
good luck!
Ok, so I cut it last night, here he is.... still so handsome!!!

Oh he's a cute one!!!
Thanks everyone! It's a bit shaggy, but I like to think of it as additional character... :)
Hank seems to like it too, less tangles and mats pulling on his sensitive skin.
