I'm worried. Jasper is having mobility problems today.

Jasper - is having really mobility problems today. He would not get up when I came home from work - he tried a couple of times and made it up at the 3rd try. He went outside and is not himself - just wants to lay down. I have 2 calls into 2 different vets just waiting for a call back.

I sure hope this is not a big deal but am really worried - too worried can't find my login.

Gee Becky, without much more info, I hope your dog is okay? You didn't mention age...you didn't mention if you thought she ate something or had any problems at all...You didn't mention if this behavior was due to anything or there were other things that precipated it...So can't giv much advice other than to say, hope you saw a Vet and hope all is okay...
hope you've gotten a call back. Is everything OK?
Here is the background infor on Jasper. He is young, will be 2 in the Spring (rescue so I don't have an exact age). No heath problems - but his xrays at 6 months showed HD. We have been keeping him lean, and doing lots of walking to keep strong muscles. Vet who diagnoised wants to start pain meds and think that might be a short term solutions and long term do hip surgury. I need a second opinion and am waiting for the 2nd vet to call me back. That maybe tomorrow. Meanwhile, it appears that if Jasper gets in a down - he gets stuck and can't push up with his back legs. No bits at his hips, but just not himself - no wags, no sniffing at my counters to see whats up there

Thanks

Poor Jasper.
I hope you hear from the second vet soon, so you can know where to go next.
Hoping things improve soon.
Becky

I hope jasper is doing better. My dog has Hd at 1 year. Pm me and I can tell you some of the things we have been doing that has made
a huge difference in Frankies life.

Becky, I can't PM you because you can't log in and the e-mail address I have for you is bouncing. Please consider calling Dr Amy at her Jackson Pet Hospital (262) 677-3112 to see if she has any ideas.

Hope the boy's doing OK

Becky - sorry to hear that Jasper is having bad joint trouble. I hope you hear back from your other vet and definitely call Amy!

:ghug: :ghug:
Sorry to hear about Jasper  If you decide to go with the meds, there is a site that sells special slings that you can use to help Jasper get up easier. I think its called handicappedpets.com

Hope he feels better.
Poor boy. I don't have any advice, just hope he feels better soon. Hope you get the second opinion soon.
Here is the update - my vet is recommending a Femoral Head Ostectomy - which I am not entirely sold on the idea. Yes I have a call into Amy. I think my vet is too agressive and I keep trading voice mail with Amy. My plan for now is to start some pain meds update the xrays and go from there. My vet here is willing to try xrays without sedation but that quality might not be the best.
Becky, I had a girl who at 11mo. underwent her first surgery on her worst side. Then had the other 3 mo. later. it was the best thing I could have done. She lived to 13 and was very mobile until she was almost 12. The pain meds can be harsh on the stomach and there is pros and cons to the surgery, but only you can make that decision. We were lucky it was very successful for our girl. Hope things are looking better.

Thats what my vet wants to do with Frankie by August. We are not completely sold on it either, but don't want to go thru hip replacement either. Frankie has been doing water therapy for about a month now and it has made a huge difference. Building up the muscles in his back legs. After his therapy they give him a nice massage and stretch out his legs. I didn't want to start him on pain meds at his young age of 1 year now. We are on an herbal called Body Sore. I think it has really helped alot. Frankie doesn't seem to be in any kind of pain anymore. Even after manipulation. If you want Im me and we can talk more.

Becky, how is Jasper doing?
