Shaving or trimming for summer?

We've been told our new OES needs to be shaved practically down to the skin for the summer, not just trimmed. Is this true? It sounds a bit extreme. We live just south of San Jose, CA, so it can get pretty hot. Also, can anyone recommend a groomer in the Morgan Hill area (zip code 95037)? Thanks.

I have no info on a groomer there, but NO they do not have to be shaved down for the summer. Do a search on this site and you'll see lots of posts where this has been the topic. There are lots who don't shave down and lots that do. I keep mine in a puppy cut all summer and somewhat longer in the winter. But never shaved naked and never in full coat. I'm in a happy middle.
No, you don't have to shave your OES. You can have your dog clipped into a puppy cut if you are concerned about heat, also, it depends on how much heat your dog can take. My Wendel runs very hot, he couldn't go in full coat in the region we live - it gets too humid. If you do opt to shave your dog, don't worry! The coat grows in quickly. My dogs grow close to an inch a month of fur.
Thanks very much for getting back to me. We've found a groomer in our town who agrees with you, so I assume they're competent. Thanks again!
