Getting used to the brush

How do I get my 9 week old used tithe brush? All she wants to do is bite the brush and nip at my hands. I tried giving her a special yummy treat that she
will only get when the brush comes out. Does it just take time? I also could not get her to relax on her side at all. Any helpful hints would be awesome!!!

Time and patience...time and patience....time and patience
Those little teeth can hurt, can't they?
Try separating both activities. Alot of dogs don't like lying on their sides. Puppies don't know the meaning of the word still.
Has anyone taught you touch/treat. Its a good place to start. Have you little one get used to you touching them all over, then bring out the brush.
I groom on the floor. Yes I know alot of people don't like that. I find it keeps my joints limber. I do clip using a table.
I'm sure the pros can tell you more...
With any training things take time and patience. Breaking things down makes it easier on your puppy and you

Boy... do I wish I COULD! Asterisk will vanish in a millisecond once that brush comes out, so I have to use the table for her. Wendel doesn't mind the floor, but I can't really groom more than his ears or side.

Just like furry and four paws mentioned, it does take time and patience. Your puppy has a lot to learn, and it's great that you are exposing your puppy to brushing this early on.

Just keep at it.
I would suggest you get the puppy really tired out. Run him around the yard, play chase, just get her tired out. Then, after she settles for her nap, take out a very soft brush and begin slowly. Right now you just want her to get used to the feeling of a brush, so a soft one will feel better to her. Also, if she is feet shy, mouth shy or ear shy, this would be the time to gently pick up on paw, then the other, and the other and the other...gently look into her ears and mouth..maybe touch her tusch..

Puppies are so much like babies in the sense that when they are tired...they are OUT~~~ and you can do pretty much anything to them.. :D :D :D

((just my thoughts, you will probably get better suggestions..keep checking this thread!!!) ~~~~~ :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:
Thank you everyone! Patience seems to be something I am going to have to really work on. She is super smart and I know she picks up on things quickly. I will just keep at it. The floor seems to be where I am most comfortable too. On a side note: I bathed her on Tuesday night and she is a mess already! Silly girl.
When our 1st OES was little, we groomed him on top of the dryer. It is in the entry and a real well lit area. Having them on something is easier on the human's back, and also discourages the pup from moving around a lot.
Then we got a grooming table - and he was already trained!

Chewie was used to a grooming table as a pup before we got him, so it was just a matter of continuing the practice. He is really good, I can groom him anywhere, and about in any position. It is wonderful! :D
Last night I sat in front of the sofa and brushed him out totally while watching TV. Very relaxing. Just woke him up to flip sides.....
Oh, I look forward to the day when I can do that. I have tried out kitchen island but it made me nervous b/c of how much she was moving around. I of course cleaned I off thoroughly before preparing dinner!!! :)

Here is a link to a thread addressing your question. It is a few years old but old sage advise is still sage advise.
