Crate training little Khloe

Night 2 of Khloe being home wasn't too bad. She has been such a joy during the day. Has a very sweet personality and is so funny! At night however, she cries for a while before settling in and we have had to remove all bedding from her crate because she keeps pottying on it. So....I know she is still little 9 weeks tomorrow, but will the crating at night get better? Is there such a thing as checking on her too often? Are we making her more co-dependant on us? So far we have been taking her out at 1am, 3am, and then getting up with her at between 5-6am. Eventually I don't want to have to keep doing that! :) First puppy I have crate trained so just wanting to make sure I am doing this correctly!

By the way, last night she had no bedding and went all night without messing in her crate. We did take her out those times I listed before though.

I wouldn't check on her. Once she's in her crate, she should be there until it is time to be let out again. I found that when you check on them, it gets them riled up. Maybe leave a web cam on her, so she can’t tell you are watching?
Oh, and you might find that a good size stuffie might make her feel better. Something to cuddle up with.

PS: Pictures PLEASE!
Congrats on your new bundle of sheepdog love! Sounds like you are doing just fine. First of all, pups don't have the physical capability of real bladder control until they are a few months old (16 weeks maybe?). Here's a general rule of thumb for housebreaking: months old + 1 = time in hours. Since Khloe is 2 months old right now, she can probably hold it about three hours overnight at a time.

Daytime is another matter entirely. She will need to pee pretty much constantly during the day, as an active puppy equals an active bladder. :)

I have had two male sheepdogs, both on the large side. Both became solidly trained at five months old. That seemed to be when the training gelled in their tiny brains, and when their bodies became physically able to handle it as well.
