Weight loss and vomiting but happy as ever

Hi all,

Firstly, sorry I have disappeared of late, life is pretty crazy at the moment.

As much as we call him our little fatty, Bally has always gone through periods of eating way too little and he's hit another one in the last month or so. He's become super ribby (hard to tell how underweight he is though thanks to all that fluff!) and his spine feels to obvious to me. I've tried all the usual tricks to entice him to eat, but even when I add interesting tidbits he will only nibble on it a little. He has also thrown up twice in the last week on the rare occasion when he has eaten his dinner which is what has me worried.

He's still full of energy and his usual, chirpy self so I don't know if it's just another phase he'll go through or if there is something more drastic underlying it.

Bally has great timing.... I think the last time I had to post in this section was when we were moving and now we're getting ready to pack up again. A just-in-case vet visit is going to be near impossible to squeeze in, but if you think it might be more serious, we'll have to work something out.

Thanks!!

I just wanted to add that the last time he threw up was this afternoon. He's a had a tiny bit of food since, but he feels a bit too hot to me now as well and the insides of his ears are quit
If its been a week and he's throwing up I'd be worried, not so much if just not eating but vomiting is different especially if he is feverish.

My two both managed a gastro bug just before Easter and needed antibiotics to settle things. Same deal, I had to take time off work to get the vet's before the Easter break. Why do they time these things so well?

Rastus started it by eating something gross at the off lead park. He threw up and then got the runs. Then he shared with Tiggy. Rastus needed two courses of antibiotics to settle it and Tiggy one. The fluffy poopy butt was not fun.

I put both mine straight on boiled rice and poached chicken, it helped. But if Bally's not eating that may not be an issue for you. As tricky as it is I think I'd want to see a vet as he's throwing up and maybe feverish.

Good luck, get better soon Bally.
I would make a Vet appt. Its not "normal" for a dog not to eat when you add goodies to the food. Its not "normal" for a dog to vomit after eating.

I believe something is going on with your pupper. It needs to be checked.

If you weren't worried you wouldn't have asked.

Please keep us updated because now I'm worried.
Yes-- I would be worried. We just went through a bout with Max, that landed him in the hospital for two days. Can't be too careful with these symptoms. Please keep us updated.
If you say he now feels warm to the touch then probably running a Temperature. Eating little then throwing up he is obviously not well as showing not much interest in his food.

Vet visit and take it from there. Dont worry about the food, just make sure he is getting plenty of fluid till you see the vet.

If all checks out OK then start him back on bland, that is rice and poached chicken even if the vet prescribes something you can also go bland to start him back for a few days till you gradually bring him back to his normal diet.

Tasty tempters for fussy eaters, try some liver sprinkles over his meal, fish like sardines in springwater or tuna in springwater. Smellier the better to tempt them to eat again. Cheese treats, kangaroo (makes them jump higher 8) ) you can actually get that dried like a jerky they love it as a treat, something he has not had before will be a new tempting sensation to get him interested in eating again provided all checks out ok at the vets, sound like he might need a course of anti-biotics at the moment, sounding like a little buggy thing happening with him.
Thanks for the replies :)

Bally hasn't thrown up again, has gone back to a normal temp and is even eating a bit more since I last posted. I've decided to leave the vet trip, although saying that, I have to go in to get something for the ear infection he's just developed anyway  . Sigh.
