So who wants to hook up my DVD player?

My DVD/VCR combo is not working 100%. The VCR part works fine, the DVD player is dicey. It works when it feels like working. I have a new one (well, it's my mom's but she doesn't use it). My TV is about 5 years old (weighs 70 pounds, and no, I'm not going to buy a new one). I also have AT&T U-Verse.

So I figure, how hard can this be? The floor behind my TV is a jungle of cables. I move the TV (which is scary because the stand it's on is kinda rickety) and look at the connection between the TV and the DVD. All the cables run between the U-Verse box and the TV. Between the DVD player and the TV, there is one cable. How hard can this be? I get out the new DVD player and upon examining the back, see that there is no equivalent input like on my old DVD. Fine. I actually read the instructions and unplug the old DVD, plug the new DVD in, connect the red, yellow and white cables from the TV into the DVD player. How hard can this be?

Of course nothing happens. I fool around and reach the end of my patience. I reconnect the old DVD player and put the new one back in the box in the garage until I can find a 12 year old who can figure this out.

I feel your pain. Maybe I am glad I had 3 kids after all.........
A connection with red yellow and white would be denoted as a "video input" in the tv's source selection. You'd need to set your tv to that vido input to watch the DVD.
Sometimes we can find the manuals online.
Do you want to keep the old DVD/VCR player just for the VCR part?
Give us the make and model number for each of the pieces of equipment and I'll be glad to see if I can get you dirctions in English.

I'm the one who hooked up our big screen with the sound system, VCR, DVD and cable boxes. I also labeled each conection, which makes it easy to take apart and put back together.

This makes no sense to me! How would I set my tv to that video input?

If this makes any difference, I put my tv on channel 3 to watch videos or DVDs.

Momof3, I have the manuals for the tv and the new DVD player. But neither manual shows my current configuration. The new DVD player also has a VCR player so I don't need a separate component.
