Update on Dillon

Today we have had the Royal Vetinary College Cambridge get intouch to confirm that Dillon has hip dysplacia in both hips:( The gap between his ball and socket is too shallow for any proceedures, however vet says that when he reaches 8 months of age he recommends Dills goes for total hip replacement in both hips, with a good success rate.

In the meantime we are to try and build up muscle tone ie hydrotherapy for a couple of months until he can have the operation; keep everything crossed for him guys.

All fingers and paws crossed for Dillon.
Sorry it was bad news for you.
Sorry to hear Deb, is there a dog therapy centre near you for Hydrotherapy for him? Dog swimming pool or even a water treadmill for dogs?

It does help keep the strength up in there rear without impacting on his hip joints, so by the time he is ready to be operated on he has the muscle tone still there so will help after with his recovery better.

Hugs not great news but good you did find out so you can help little dillion. :ghug:
Is FHO an option?
:ghug: :ghug:
Poor little guy....
No Ron FHO is not an option for our little boy:( He has got a long hard road ahead of him, but we will be with him every step of the way :aww:

Did they say why it wasn't an option? Just curious -- my impression was that it is good for young dogs. Something in his structure?
Not too sure Ron, I think the word shallow was used??? if that makes any sence.

Debsx
I'm not an ortho but I'd guess that its a couple of reasons.

Firstly FHO are considered better in smaller, lighter dogs and secondly because its both hips. The shallow acetabulum may be a reason too, I dont know about that.
Only good wishes for Dillon
and his Mom too!
So sorry to hear the news. Frankie has been doing great in his water therapy. He's up to 21.5 minutes on the treadmill 2 x a week. He picked it right up. Everyone has noticed he isn't as lame when he walks in his hips just after 2 weeks. He gets bored after about 15 minutes then we have to do things to keep him occupied.

Best of luck. Pm me if you need to talk.
