Trying our paw at herding

We finally got a time slot with Shauna Gourley, our local number #1 herding trainer. We wanted to have our three miscreants accessed for ability. Our weather has been horrible the last 10 days, so the fields had mud to the knees but that didn't stop us from driving north where Basque traditions are still very much alive.
Margie is a natural and received a lot of encouraging comments. Buff was extremely unsure and hesitant until he watched Margie run again. His next turn he had the drill. :clappurple:
Miss Ellie will wear a uniform and pompoms and cheer them on from the sideline. It's been too many years of being told not to chase neighbor kids or other animals.

Video of Margie's run is on the Colorado Old English Rescue FB page. Sorry Ron  . Wanted to let people know that rescue sheepies like Margie can do all the fun stuff too.

We will try again when the fields are dry. Maybe Ellie will change her mind when she can run without her tiny feet being sucked into 8" deep mud.

Shauna was pleased to see an OES. It seems the OES in our area only do conformation and don't involve in herding or agility. The students with border collies were laughing at the "tall dogs" saying they wouldn't be able to cut and turn with the sheep. They weren't laughing after Margie and Buff showed them how they could move and anticipate the sheep.

WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!

And, since some of us refuse to do Face Book    , would you be willing to (also) share her video and do a write up about her experiences for the Performance OES website rescue section?

We've heard from people with OES doing agility and obedience and rally with their rescue OES, but no one who has done herding instinct testing even...Please.... ?

Are you considering taking lessons with her...?

Admire your bravery. I've had lessons cancelled for deep muck 8O

Must be a herding kind of weekend. Kerry was finally getting her guys back out there after weather kept getting in their way. I'm not doing anything this weekend unless you count having to slap a lead back on Dazz when she saw the geese in the back 40 on our walk yesterday evening, but truth be told I don't think she had herding on her mind...

Kristine
Good job. Watching them herd for the first time is exhilarating.

I can't wait to get back to herding again as soon as we finish a string of agility trials. I am hoping to start again in May.
That sounds like you had a wonderful time - in spite of the mud.
I hope your trio has a new hobby :D :D

A good instructor can help your older one learn she has permission to chase these critters!!
