Burping????

O.k...so, my sweet Felix and Ferdinand have ALWAYS had terrible farts, but....a few moments ago Felix came up to me and BURPED. My 11 year old laughed at my reaction and said that Felix burps all the time. (!) 8O
So here is my question....I KNOW Ferdi never burps. Nor does my pug or Basset. In fact, in all my life, I have never had a burping dog. 8O

Why is Felix a burper? Should I be concerned? Or...is he just expressing his approval of a good meal?

Burping is pretty normal at my house.....for the dogs too - not just husband....

Chewie burps occasionally, and so does Maggie (coonhound) and Riley (rat terrier). In fact Riley burped on me this afternoon.
wow, i thought we had this conversation, but it may have been elsewhere. my sheepie quite often came to me in my lazyboy after his dinner and burped. 8O
they all do, some more than others, breeds that is.
Violet burps occasionally.
Yuki waits until you're about to give her a kiss. Once you're close enough, she lets it loose in your face. She's classy.

Heart is the same!!! Or while I am on the couch watching TV, she jumps up and burps in my ear. It's almost like she thinks..""oh..I feel a burp, where's mom??? gotta save it...gotta save it until I get in her FACE!!!!!" :D :D

Pearl, in her younger days, was the same way~~~

Isn't that listed in the standards of the breed?????????
Belle some times walks up to me after she's eaten and burps gently in my face. I don't know what this need to share is  but I just say "you're welcome".

Yesterday I didn't need an alarm clock. Wendel farted and burped at the same time, it was alarm enough.

If he isn't farting, he's burping. If I had to pick, it would be burps over his farts that singe your nose hairs.
Ru makes a point of burping at whoever fed him. We think it's his way of saying 'thank you' for the food.
Quigley is a burper and Maggie isn't. It's normal and just depends on the dog! We laugh every time...it never gets old.
We get burps often too  I think I read somewhere that burping is actually a good thing. :clappurple: Gets the excess gas out...I think it happens more if you have a food gulper that eats super quick.

On a serious note, if the dog continuously attempts to burp, or looks like they are trying without anything coming out, or appears to be attempting to vomit and cannot, it could signal trouble...like bloat or blockage. But a true old fashion burp is just fine
My husband used to tell me that a burp right in my face was Winston's way of telling me he loved me.

Winston would come up to me and as soon as I'd look at him or pat his head, he'd belch to rattle the light fixtures. And Jason would say, "I love you, mom!" in the Winston voice.

I miss that old guy so much.
O.k.! So, it is established. Sheepies burp. 8O and fart  and it's just part of their endearing cuteness. Now, If I didn't already live in a house of men....(I have 5 sons, four male dogs, two male rabbits, a male tortoise and a male ferret, and a husband) I would be shocked, but, what can I expect....it seems my destiny to live with the "finer" side of life  In which burping and farting are forms of communication. Crude forms to be sure....but...communication nonetheless. heh heh :rimshot:
how funny! I was just getting ready to ask this question. Chiquita burps so much I was beginning to think something might be wrong with her!

My these sheepies sure are burpy :rimshot:
there si some theory that its a dogs way of saying you are part of their pack - as in , hey if you were hungry I and I had eaten, I would share with you. Gross. My boys all do it. I am sure Miss Marley never has now that I think oof it - but she could go days without eating and not be concerned so food isn't really important to her (sure that's why  ).
