Leaving our OES outside

Hi we have always kept our gorgeous little OES Bella (who is 9 months old) inside with us when we were home, but we are in a new house on a large rural property and the grout in the tiles has become stained and dirty. We spent 3 consecutive weekends cleaning it with acid and now my husband wants her to stay outside permanently. I take her for loads of walks and playing around, and try to spend every moment I can out there with her but when we are inside and shes out she cries. My heart absolutely goes out to her, and although I try not to baby her too much as a lot of trainers say, I dont want her to be maladjusted as a result. We absolutely love her to pieces and would have her inside in a heartbeat if we could without it staining our tiles. I just wanted to be sure that keeping her outside wouldnt lead to an unsociable dog or would not cause too much distress to her. She doesnt cry continuously but when she hears one of us lough or when she wakes up she has a little whimper. Are there any booties or anything similar on the market for inside dogs? Any advice would be really appreciated!! Cheers

Hi,

Living in the middle of the country myself and also having a tiled kitchen/ utility, I can empathise with you regarding dirty floors, especailly in the winter! On the other hand, Sheepies are well known as a highly sociable breed (I think that's why they make such good pets) and to keep them shut outside and alone for any length of time won't be good for them.

We just had to get used to it - although (and this may help) we keep a blanket at the kitchen door for Woof to lay on, and don't let him elsewhere in the house till he's dried off a bit!

Best of Luck.

Hi Kathy!
I have the same trouble with Curtis at my parents house because he leaves Sheepie Prints all over the hardwood floors. Anyways... I did a little internet researching and I came up with some doggie shoes. They're a bit on the expensive side, but it might be worth a try!

Best of luck and let us know how it all works out!
Hi all!!!

Thanks very much for the websites - I will definately try it. I would do anything to keep her inside with us, but unfortunately cant keep her perfectly still in one place as yet because she is an active little puppy.

The booties will be aboslutely terrific -something which will ensure she does not damage the grout in the tiles I am more than happy to clean any dirt off the carpet and tiles as I have been doing I just didnt want them permanently stained (I hope this doesnt sound too anal??)

I will definately buy some and bring our little baby back inside where she belongs. It sure beats sitting outside with her all the time.

Thanks for all the advice and regards

Kathy  :D
If you don't want to purchase the booties, which can be a bit expensive, you may like to try some soft paws. They are little rubber caps that you put over the toenails, I bought some and they have saved my leather furniture. you can check them out at http://www.softpaws.com

These definately won't cut down on dirt but will cut down on any damage from those thick tonails, and it keeps those scratches to a mimimum.
Thanks very much for your reply I will definately buy the booties though- I really am not concerned about the cost at all. Thanks again for your advice and Regards Kathy
Try sealing the grout with a good quality grout sealer. Otherwise, the grout will just get dirty from other means as well.

Also, seal the tile.

Just my nickel's worth.
Wow thanks didnt even know you could get grout sealer. My silly husband decided to use white grout instead of grey or another colour so obviously in hindsight this was not wise - given we had already planned to get our little girl once we'd settled. Thank you all very much!!!
