Top Dog.....

This morning, I was playing fetch with the boys...uh...I mean, the dogs! (I call them the boys....) And we were having a great time with two separate squeaky devil balls....which they both LOVE. They did a great job of co=operating, squeaking them joyfully as they romped back to me to have me throw again...they even played with each other tossing the ball that they had found to the other dog and being really cute and fluffy and all things delightfully sheepie. However.....

At some point, un related to the balls, there was a squabble. I don't know who started it as it seemed very simultaneous to my human eyes, in any case...it was a typical squabble....they sound like bears and it looks all tough and scary. But then...I noticed that Ferdinand transferred the "fight" into simply SITTING on Felix who was growling and fighting under his rump. Ferdinand was just looking totally calm and non-plussed about the temper tantrum going on under his bottom looking off into the distance, the picture of nobility and calmness....and simply hopped off Felix once the struggle subsided. Then, they got back to playing.

It was actually quite....humorous!! It reminded me of holding a two year old in your arms that is having a tantrum expressing to them that they are quite out of control, and that you will hold them until they find control again. They eventually stop fighting and screaming......and feel very loved and secure in your ability to help them gain control. It LOOKED like that is what Ferdinand was doing with Felix....like "HEY little bro...CHILL!!!" (they are the same age...but Ferdi IS bigger.)

So....what is up with these boys? I mean.....dogs.....

Funny.
I'm not sure what was going on. You may well be on the right track with your theory.
Tiggy has a devil squeaky ball too, it is her favorite, favorite thing. She will even stop chasing other dogs (usually) when I squeak it and come for me to throw it for her. :D
Well, that's one way to chill out a pack member
Sybil does this with the resident rescue dog some times when she gets out of line. Makes me laugh.

Love having a supremely confident alpha bitch around. Never seen it in boys though

Morgan started doing thta with Marley as soon as he got bigger than she was. She is faster and more wily. It still happens occasionally.
It really IS funny! He did it again this morning in the car! Just sat on him till he stopped fussing. I had to laugh about it....

As for the squeaky devil ball....IT IS THE BEST THING EVER. No matter what kind of distraction, if I squeak that thing I have their COMPLETE attention. I bring one with me wherever I go with them....to distract them from barking dogs, or anything else. One squeak and no matter what they were doing, or where they were....They are all focused on me and will do whatever I say.....especially if they get to catch it! I have several of them just as back ups and love watching them run around squeaking them in their mouths. It is so fun that sheepies PLAY! (my basset will run after a ball howling...but he will never bring it back.) My pug can't be bothered with such nonsense....but the sheepies...they are such fun! (and soooo smart.)

:D

Tigg's is a larger one and bright red. She gets lots of people laughing at the park as she runs around with a big red ball in her mouth squeaking. Often they dont notice the ball at first as she's in full coat but they sure notice the squeaking.
My sheepies have all red ones too. They aren't the biggest size offered...more like a little bigger than a tennis ball...with horns. It has the most perfect squeek! heh heh....I love the bright red ball in their mouths. I also have a glow in the dark ball for nighttime fun! When they get that one in their mouth they look like spectral dogs!
