Spring has sprung!

... which means it's time to clean up the yard. Yesterday, I got two trash bags filled. Not filled totally, I only fill them about a third of the way. But - GEEZ! I only got a portion of the yard cleaned up!

How long does it take to clean your backyard in the spring? I think next year I'm going to find a dog poop service...

even though we had over two feet of snow I kept up with it!! The dogs went (mostly) where we shoveled and when they were mountain goats so was I . I pick up twice a day as I have 5 big dogs going 8O
LOL - it is definitely spring.
I have a fenced dog yard, so it concentrates the area the poop is in. I really try and keep it picked up all winter long. Unfortunately having long workdays and short day length messes with my plan! We got so much snow too - it seemed on my days off it snowed or just had snowed, covering all the poop I had planned to pick up.

Monday I made it through the whole dog yard in it's entirety!!! :clappurple:
It is on the north side of a 2 story house, so it took until this week to melt the last of the snow and ice.
I use mulch in the yard (cover it totally), and got in a good layer late last fall. It left us in pretty good shape this spring. I normally get it by the truckload, but it is still not available. So, I went to Menards and got 7 bags and topped off the bare spots.

Just got in from picking up the last 2 days of poop (12 hour work days with evening classes afterwards), looks really nice!! :D
I think (HOPE!) I kept up pretty well this year. Time, and melting, will tell. Spring has not sprung here, quite yet. We are in the midst of one of my least favorite "seasons": just melting enough to form ICE :x ice chipping and sand scattering are the traditional activities of this season...along with unintentional ice dancing, and unplanned skijoring
the beautiful thing about living in the southwest is that you can keep your yard up year round!! my iris are starting to bloom after all the rain and the grass is on its way to green..oh and the best part....the evenings are starting to smell awesome with the orange blossoms!!
And I just checked the weather forecast... :(

Clouding up later this afternoon (it's a balmy 53 now!) and rain starting early evening. Lows below freezing and a high of 35 tomorrow. So back to snow for tomorrow into the weekend.......
I really wish I was more diligent during the winter to clean up after my pooches. It just gets so blustery and seems to snow all the time! When I do attempt to clean it seems that the snow has covered it all over again.
Oh geez Darcy................

Imagine your wildflowers will be spectacular....if I haven't missed them already.

We should be blooming here soon........it's late this year with colder weather. I'm ready for flowers and leaves!!! Grass is greening up...........slowly as it is a mix of cold Kentucky bluegrass and warm Bermudagrass......patchy for a couple of weeks  until the Bermuda catches up.

Our winters are cold and mostly dry so clean up can be done on reglar basis. Usually get half a 5 gal bucket unless we let it go an extra long time. It goes to the back where we dig super deep and wide holes.......4-5 feet deep and wide.....then bury the stuff, thowing dirt over it each time. A hole will last a year...about. Come summer, the frequent irrigation melts the mess into the soil so less to pick up.

Still rebuilding steps into house as neither of us can climb the steep steps anymore so yard work is still on hold.
We've had so much rain and the below normal cooler temps have brought out the " greening" of the grass, and the slow filling in of spots. Picking up the dog doo is a daily job here.

We have a similar but perhaps somewhat shorter season just as you describe. This year I really hit the "I'm getting too damn old for this" mode thinking I now understand how people break a hip or something 8O

Of course, none of my idiot dogs come with good brakes.

Managed to stay on top of the yard situation fairly well this year. Not perfect, but pretty good. Need to add mulch but we're in decent shape as long as the spring monsoons don't get too bad. 60 degrees the last few days. Won't last, but, oh, YES! it does feel like spring!

I hate the idea of stepping on poo or picking it up when it's soggy (as it melts ...seems to be how it gets), so when we lived in Alaska, ...we always kept a certain section shoveled so we could pick it up. But we also lived close to others, and I can't live with the idea of making them smell it.
I did the spring poop clean up last week.
I try to stay on top of it through the winter, but it's tough because it snows just about every day.

I think I came up with (2) 5 lb bags and (2) much lighter ones. Yard is cleaned up now.
I'm thinking of running a rake over it to de-thatch but it may be too early still.
Normally we still have snow on the ground but the weather the last 2 weeks has been awesome.
The thermometer in my truck said 70 today.

Give me a couple of good rains and keep it warm and I'll be able to get my cars out of storage.
Well, I decided to start to de-thatch. It was just too nice out to stay inside.
I've been cooped up since Saturday prepping for interviews, so I got out and did half of the backyard. I'll do the other half tomorrow.
Spring fever here as well. This winter was a witch (sp  ). The yard wasn't too bad since Chauncey hated all the deep snows, we blew a path the lenght of the yard and he was more than happy to go there. Our son raked for us last week so all we need to do is weed & feed and over seed the back with some patch repair.
We are forecasted to go back to colder temps tomorrow with storms then snow showers after midnight  I'll miss this week of wonderful 70 degree weather.
We are ahead o the game! I walk my dogs so pick up is immediately upon release! 8O But all that walking out there in the snow and cold has been worth it today! No poop to pick up BUT last week's hurricane/storm left lots and lots of debri from fallen trees and tree limbs. We have about ten bags of branches and last week had about the same...We live near the water and the mud and debri from the water coming up and down has been a mess as well....

Today was beautiful though ! About 65 degrees, sunny and no wind and just spectacular....Me and the dogs were loving it! We played outside with all our agility stuff and they are completely exhausted sleeping by my feet right now! Tomorrow brings some more rain though
I keep up with it all winter as much as possible - there were a few weeks where the snow was too deep to go out and go 'do hunting. I pick up at least every other day so I don't have a mess. I raked the back yard beds and filled 5 huge lawn bags with leaves and other lawn debris, have about 1 more bag to go. Can't wait for the blooms, have some hostas poking their noses through the ground. Need to power seed some grass spots that Patch turned yellow. Spring is almost here in Louisville.
