snuggling?

Here is a question. Do Sheepies like to snuggle in general or is it a hit or miss kinda thing. I try to snuggle :? and he doesn't like it. Even if he would just sit next to me, but he wants nothing to do with it, He thinks when he is next to me it is time to play  . Any suggestions? Does it come with age?

I think it has to do with your sheepies personality. My girl Asterisk will ONLY snuggle first thing in the morning. She'll lay across my belly and snuggle, but after that - not a chance. She'd rather play.

Wendel on the other hand can't get enough of snuggling. His favorite move is to get real close and press his head into the crook of your neck and bury it there. On the flip side, his head smells REALLY good since it smells like my perfume!
It does depend on the dog, but mostly its something that comes with age  Pups (and really young sheepies, up to 2 year- olds) have way to much energy to want to spend much time sitting still, even to snuggle!

I find that a shave down does a lot to encourage cuddliness too!
I suspect the amount of coat can have an effect.

Tiggy wants to snuggle but she only lasts about a minute then she starts puffing and bails for the cool tile. Its the one thing that tempts me to clip her short.
Archie likes to lie next to us, and dry his soggy chin on our thighs :cow:

He is currently wrapped around my feet at the computer desk

I think he is like this because he is not given free reign of the house, and only allowed in the lounge/dining room when we are home have finished eating and he is dry, he spends a lot of time crunched up by the gate between the kitchen and dining room.

So he makes the most of the time when he is priviledged :D
mine didn't snuggle until they were older and heavier  not when they are little which would have been nice. now Laika likes to stretch out on top of me and Langley likes to sit on the couch with me and get his armpits scratched and if I stop he leans in 8O
Zeke snuggles for a few minutes and then he's done. He really won't spend much time on the furniture, either. He likes a cool floor.

Brick only snuggles when he wants something. He's a real manipulator. :)
If by snuggling you mean, having a 68 pound dog, laying on you, rubbing her face on you, blocking the view of the TV and staring at you...licking you profusely, 'digging' at your side then yes!!! Heart is a snuggler... :P :P :P

If you mean, laying beside you with her head on your lap or laying along side you while you are laying down with her head on your tummy..just being with you and and loving you????...then PEARL is my snuggler...... :D :D :D :D
Oliver will be one year on March 29 and his idea of snuggling is to lay across all the pillows at the head of the bed and stick his nose right on my nose. He'll stay there all night if you let him. I have to admit, my husband and I think dogs are people, too. Oliver, does, eventually, leave on his own or will get off the bed if we ask. He is quite the lover and never misses a chance to be hugged. He never is the first to pull away unlike our Lab/ golden Ret. that acts like a cat and decides when and if you may hug him. I think it's all in the way they perceive their station in your life.
Kirby loves to snuggle. He needs time between us every evening and every morning. He has his routine!
Geez, Oliver better get with it. He is getting better. His bitting has calmed down a little which is good news. He is starting to get the meaning of " Just lay there" ,  Last night I finally got to enroll him in some puppy classes :clappurple: :clappurple: . I have been waiting for this day. It is like my child is enrolled in pre-school!LOL
Traci
Ru has never snuggled.

That sounds exactly like Ru!!! He never stays in the same place for more than 30 seconds either, even if he looks really comfy.
Chauncey just seemed to prefer to trying to eat us whole  for the first year or so. When he was little, cute, fluffy and small enought to hold and cuddle...he just wanted to nip.

After that it seems as though he now lives for, licking, and LOVING and SNUGGLES :hearts: :hearts: :aww:
I have a 10 month old little lady who LOVES to cuddle. The OES tenancy to be very affectionate is one of the things that made me decide to get one. At first she had no interest in it...wasn't even a fan of belly rubs. It seemed like something clicked and one day she turned into a little cuddle monster. Now I can't get her off me :)
I have an 11 month old little girl. She cuddles when she is really tired or if she is really hyper I can get her to cuddle by laying besider her and wrapping my leg around her hips. She loves this but will depend on how hot she is.
Bumble is 3 months and she loves a cuddle. Only when she instigates it though, most of the time she has important exploring and chewing to do and doesn't have time for cuddles. We went on a ferry 2 days ago and to make up for that she got to sleep in my bed with me that night, which she absolutely loved!
Here's it's the dog.

MO snuggles only in bed and only around the lower legs of uprights.
Jack believes snuggles whenever possible. In bed it means crawling on top then sliding down until he has as much of his body against you as possible.
Harry loves to snuggle....be it while I'm on the toilet  , sitting in a chair, standing up, or in bed.
Kody loves to snuggle any time of the day unless he is really hot and looking to find the tile floor :) He prefers full body length snuggles and he is in heaven if he can climb in between hubby and myself to roll onto his back (lol...when he does this he looks like a frog in a disection tray). It's so sweet when he wiggles his body up to you and sticks his nose in your neck underneath your chin. Love, Love, Love my sheepie snuggles!
  Here's to the frog!

Harry's hips/legs are too bad, never seen him in the frog position, Nor Glacier......hmmm.

Jack and Mo will do this, but only if uprights aren't close by to start Commando Tummy Rubs, thus ruining a good sleep.
ella, at three and a half, will snuggle in the morning at the top of the stairs. I have to sit down at the top of the stairs and she will put her head in my lap or press her head against my chest for a minute or so. The rest of the day only if I am reading and she is not sleeping otherwise there is too much else going on. She still has only two speeds full go or stop (sleep). She will lean aginst me and want her ears scrratched but she is not a snuggler like the springer spanial that I had.
I cant believe how far we have come with Ziggy! he was such a nipper! and can still be-but he is getting the hang of it (and so are we) and we do cuddle! and those minutes we have jsut loving!!its so awesome! its like when your baby first smiles at you! you know--you share a moment! HE will be 6 months on the 19th, I know we have alot of puppy in him to go around, but its looking like a good future filled with cuddles.
So hang in there--How old did you say you doggie is?
We've always had snugglers, but I do echo the sentiment that SHORTer hair encourages snuggling. When it's long they get hot too fast.

There are definite snuggler types. Right now Hudson is a lay on top of you snuggler. If you so much as wiggle underneath he storms off, however, stroking him is encouraged....strongly. You'll get a head butt if you stop before he's asleep.

Rudy's a full body snuggler, but only for short periods. He'll snuggle upside down on you, or right side up, or in any twisted position that happens, but, the world is an exciting place, so the second something moves within the city limits he must get up to check it out.

if i try to lay down next to HER and snuggle, she gets up and moves away....its on her terms, and that means only between 9 and 930 at night, on MY bed, on MY side, half on top of me
sadie isnt much of a cuddler either ... she likes affection .. but not really to cuddle/snuggle

I think saying are OES snuggly ... is like saying " are humans snuggly"
it depends on the pup . !
I suspect that the response you get from any OES depends very much on how you treat him/her in general . Do you allow your dog to really be your friend ? Or are you the 'thing' from which commands and food descend to the dog in random order whenever you so decide ?
Do you regularly -as in every day -sit down on the floor just to be 'with' your dog as other dogs will ? Or are you just the provider who stays aloof unless it suits you ?? If you get the opportunity, watch a good film regarding either wolves or African wild dogs and notice how they greet one another when they have been separated for some time . They run up and start licking one anothers face -starting with the (dominant ) pack leaders . Maybe you dont like having your face licked ? Regardless of whether you do or dont , that IS the inherent behaviour pattern your dog has inherited , so it is what he/she WANTS to do to show you how much you are respected . You ARE the leader unless you have not established benevolent control.
I have 2 sheepies and a Great Pyrenees that I take for walks every day on our 12 acres . They can be 2/300 yards away from me but the minute I sit down (I could say 'the second' 'cuz they are always watching for clues ) the two sheepies run towards me just so they can be first in line for cuddles -and face-licks for me and each other !! . I didnt train them to do this in any way . They just did it themselves because THEY wanted to .
You cant expect your dog just to turn on like a light switch simply because you decided it is 'time for cuddles' . If he/she has been alone all day and when you (finally ? ) got home you didnt have time or inclination for their exuberance -and desire for cuddles and face licking -then why are you surprised if they learn not to express their emotions when YOU think it is time ?? In effect all dogs want 'equal time' so they can tell you how they feel .
You may think I'm nuts (which is your prerogative ) but before you commit me to the bin , just try it for a couple of weeks . You may want to have a couple of small treats in your pocket the first coupla times if your dog has already learned to be ignored . Remember it WANTS you to be the pack leader -and you'd better demonstrate that up front or they'll take over (at which point it is 'Katie bar the door ' for behaviour) -which doesnt mean ya gotta be the mean boss , simply that YOU display leadership and expect their appropriate response .

THE hardest thing about training dogs is getting their owners to think like dogs !!
