Puppy training class....day 1....

Dad took me to training class for the first time last night. He was complaining how it should have started 2 Tuesdays ago but it snowed and class was cancelled. I don't understand all of that, I love the snow. He put me in the thing called a car again. I knew we were going someplace fun, but mommy didn't tell daddy that she fed me before we went to class so I got sick in the car. I guess she wasn't supposed to do that, but I was hungry!

Class was fun, there were 10 dogs including my Wheaten cousin Curtis. I wanted to play with him but Dad wouldn't let me. Meany. We learned how to SIT even though I was more interested in sniffing the gymnasium and trying to go play with the other dogs. I don't understand, I sit when he asks me to at home but since Dad had a bit of trouble with me, Billy, the trainer came over to help out. I like Billy, he lets me lick his face. I was listening to Dad in no time and was sitting for him when he asked me to. I even looked up at him each time and he was smiling and telling me how good I was. I like when he does that, so I wagged my tail for him. Sucker.

I had so much fun and I can't wait to go again next week, but Dad says we have to start over with the car training. I don't know what he means by that....I hope it means I don't have to go in the car again!

That's great... it sounds like Pooh is going to enjoy this class... and you! :)
Dear Pooh,
I'm glad you had a good time at puppy class. Dont' worry about the "car thing" one day you're gonna figure out that the "car" will bring you to all sorts of wonderful places where you can get good things. First... there's this thing called "drive-thru" windows...Wow the things I've picked up from there... chicken nuggets, french fries, ice cream cones, cookies, tacos... most of the time the nice people there give me toys (only after momma tells them it's okay). Then there's this place called "petsmart", momma always lets me "shop" on my own. There is a whole aisle with chewies and nummies and toys and clothes and food...... And boy oh boy the people that love on me and give me treats... it's really awesome. Then the "car thing" takes me to my friends house to play. I learned really quick that the car is a good place. But this "truck thing" is a different story, it takes me to see Dr. Todd. He's nice and all. He gives me lots of hugs and kisses... but then sometimes he gives me these things call "shots" they only hurt for a minute and he tells me that if I dont' have them I can get really sick. Anyhow, I just wanted to tell you not to be scared of the "car thing" it's a good thing. It just takes a little time to figure it out. (Just be careful of the "truck"). You'll get the hang of it.

I've gotta go , momma's coming and she doesn't know I can type yet.

Your friend,
Abby
That's great Pooh,

Now I gotta little secret for you. Is daddy out of the room...okay now soon you might get to do the off leash recall. Here's what I want you to do, keep your eye on where Curtis is...okay as soon as daddy lets go of the leash or the trainer...don't run to daddy run over to Curtis. This is a fun game, trust me my boxer Jackson had a riot doing this to me in our puppy class. He played with his buddy boxer Hudson whom he met during puppy social.

have fun
Hey, it's bad enough that he's a social butterfly! Yes, next week we will learn stay--the trainer said that by the end of class, all dogs will be against one wall and masters on the other and they will not leave their spot--he guaranteed our money back so I guess he's good?????
I remember when we took Drez for classes. What a riot! She was 2-1/2 yrs old when we got her, and some of the dogs in her class were much younger. She started out rough, finished better, but the key to the whole thing is persistence, persistence, persistence. Learned this the hard way - or didn't learn it, I should say. To this day when we're walking her and pull on the leash and give the command "heel," she'll look at us as if to say, "So what's on your shoe?" :?
