Hypothyroidism

is what Luke has. The only clinical symptom he has is hair loss. He will be given thyroxine twice a day for the rest of his life and is expected to do just fine. From what I've read this is a pretty common problem and OES tend to get it. Does anyone have a dog with this? I would like to know if he"ll get any of his lost coat back. if not we can keep it short.

He will probably respond the the meds and have a healthier coat in a few months.... it is common in oes, because it is genetic in most cases. Some think it is occasionally caused by diet, but I don't believe that.
I think you're right about the diet. I'm finding out all I can and haven't seen anything linking this to diet.
Lizzie also has this same problem. She did lose some of her hair, but it has grown back. Her skin and fur still aren't in the best shape, she's been on meds since last July. Our vet has retested twice and she falls in normal range now, but we may never get the quality of coat we'd like her to have. No vanity for Liz, she has a short cut now and probably will unless or until we can get her fur in better shape. The only suggestion I have is to keep your dog's coat well-brushed! The skin needs air in order to keep it and the coat healthy.
