Hi Everyone!

I could really use some advice Question .

Gumbo is 9 weeks old and we've had her for just over a week. We are crate training her. During the day she is only in her crate if we have to go out and she does very well. The evening is a different story. We're up with her twice a night around 2 and 5. Lately, she pees in her crate! It seems as though by the time she starts crying for us, it's too late. We've been taking her water away early and she goes out around 11 or 12 just before we go to bed. I thought crate training was best because dogs don't like to pee where they sleep. Doesn't seem to bother Gumbo.

Thank you so much for any advice you can give.
Gumbo's Mom,

Hi there, and congrats on the new puppy. From reading other posts you will read that most puppies can only hold it for one hour per month of age plus one. So At 9 weeks, your puppy can hold his bladder for a max of 3 hours, you may want to change your timing to 2-1/2 hours b/w taking the pup outside. That may help and then as the puppy gets only, increase it slowley. I hope that helps
I would also make sure the crate is no bigger than what she needs to lay down comfortably in and turn around. If the crate is too big they will pee in one end and sleep in the other.
If there is a blanket in with her, I would try taking it out, if there is no blanket, I would try putting one in..... LOL
Good luck! Smile
