Disney World Question

So as I've mentioned a few times, the in-laws are taking us to Disney World. My first time, woohoo!

We're trying to decide between the week of Thanksgiving (for 7 days) or Columbus day week in October (for 7 days). Is there a preference for those who know Disney World and the weather there? My MIL wants to start looking at reserving her spot with their timeshare since they're trying to plan another vacation prior to whenever we are going.

We hear Thanksgiving can be crowded because kids are off for 2 days, BUT we'll be there at least 3 days prior, and I figured we could spend Thanksgiving DAY at my SIL's house in Orlando.

A pro for going Thanksgiving week would be lil J will only miss 3 days of school. He'd miss 4 going Columbus day week. Then again, it's Kindergarten so I don't really care. My SIL's kids are home schooled so it doesn't matter for them. I also was thinking I'd like a higher likelihood of having warm/cool/decent weather, which is why I was thinking October over Nov?? I don't want to have to carry jackets if we can avoid it (imagine double stroller, diaper bags, extras, AND coats).

Let's see.. what else do you guys need to know. This will be for 2011 (end of). So jillybear will be 2, so she'll be interested in watching movies (for the flight), and at the stage she can enjoy the imagery around her. Joshee is presently 2, so we know he'd enjoy it, so that's what we're basing it off of. Plus, we'll have the in-laws to babysit while the older kids enjoy everything.

We have been there twice. Once in April which was full of beautiful weather and once during the first week of November which was actually quite chilly most of the time.
My in-laws all have timeshares there and Thanksgiving is very busy. Columbus week is better and very warm still. If the international food festival is going,it's a blast. You eat and drink at every country in Epcot. Though I went without the kids :D
Oh I love WDW, I think I have been there every month of the year. October is very nice weather wise. I have never been for Thanksgiving itself, but I do know its quite crowded.
We have always gone in October (at least 6 times) and the weather has always been perfect.
i live 30 min. deom there the weather is about the same for those dates.. you bring the fur kids you could leave them here  there are longer lines on thanksgiving
No advice, just wanted to say WOW, you guys plan ahead
My husband would laugh because this is how I am even if we weren't forced to plan ahead, BUT we actually aren't doing any of the planning.

MIL has a timeshare that she divides up with the kids. We each have to go on a vacation with them when it's our turn. Not to mention, it's free for us and gives them a chance to be with the grandkids. We've turned down our turn twice because he's been in Iraq or I was pregnant. So, we have to go this time. We've had all this time to decide where we wanted to go (anywhere there is a marriot).

1. we can't go to where their timeshare actually is ...hawaii b/c no way we're putting 3 kids on a long flight. this also knocks out europe, etc

2. we just don't want to go far b/c of the flight so ideally we just wanted to stay in tx.

3. then we thought we don't want to go to a resort and just lay there at the hotel b/c that's wasted hard earned time off, and we do that anyway when there's a 3 day weekend.

4. sil and bil are moving to florida in april and we've always talked about wanting to do a timeshare WITH them and going to disneyworld together one day, and what do you know... it works out perfectly. flight is only a few hours.

5. MIL has to start scheduling her timeshare a year out but combined with her other plans (she's going to hawaii prior to our vacation), she has to think ahead

Even if I wanted to not think about this trip, it's talked about sooooooooooo much (trying to convince us to choose a place which we hadn't for a long time and just convincing us to go) ...that it's impossible to avoid now. I wasn't excited until probably a week ago.

By excited, I mean... I even am almost done with our disney scrapbook. I don't even know where we're going while we're there... but yep, I've done one.
suzptcruise, we'd LOVE to take you up on that but can you imagine what traveling would be like when we will already have 3 carseats, double stroller, luggage, and goodness knows what else... So crates plus 2 dogs? Yikes.
October is much better than November, crowd wise.
We took our kids during Fall Break (the first week of October) and it was perfect.

Have fun.
If it were possible, I would pick a week that wasn't a school vacation week anywhere in the country.

I would go this time of year but not after the long weekend in Canada. The Canadian Thanksgiving weekend is the second monday of October. We went to Disneyland during this time (we are from Canada) we seen 4 other families we knew from school and while at Disney, it was crowded. Other Canadians who went the week before the long weekend said the lines were less. Disneyland closed early on the Monday which was the Columbus holiday and the Canadian Thanksgiving. We weren't ready for it to close early that night. (oops we didn't look into that).

October they start to decorate for Halloween so if you do wait for the second week of October the kids can dress-up in costumes. It will say more on the websites about this.
We have been to Disney world several times in October--the weather has always been perfect-not too hot and not too cool--and it has never been too crowded in October.

We have been in April for Spring Break--weather good but crowded. And June--a little hot and generally crowded.
October has always been my favorite time to go.
I am in Melbourne Fl about 1 hour from Disney. October is the nicest time of year here. My favorite. Thanksgiving can be nice or we can get a front and be chilly. There are less crowds in October also. Prices are lower also.
So....you'd rather DRIVE to Florida, than take a relatively quick plane ride someplace?! Crazy lady!
Are you talking to me? Hey dork, we're flying. Read #4. I don't want to fly at all but can handle 2 hrs. ;)
So I missed that last part of #4.

Well, once you're in the air, you might as well go to Hawaii (I want to go to Hawaii so I'm trying to get everyone else to go so I can live through them)
I might have said that if I had 1 on board too. Just sayin' :P

Joshee is a terror. T-E-R-R-O-R ...if he's not trying to eat everything in the kitchen, he's flirting with the ladies, picking his nose, and screaming. Sometimes all at once. :P I'd like to think I'm a polite person and wouldn't put myself through that much torture on a long flight ...so I can't even think of putting others on the plane through it. I can keep him looking like a total [quiet] stud for a few hours ...that impression may change for a longer flight. Besides, we want a trip that is enjoyable. Hawaii won't be great if the kids have jet lag a day or two after we arrive ...giving us less time there and then a day of it after we come back. It'll be our turn again a few years after our disney trip, so I'm sure hawaii will be next.
