How many of you are exercising?

What are you doing and how many times a week?

I also fell off the bandwagon and gained my weight back so I feel like a total blob of pudding. Then my treadmill broke down. My excuse to quit my morning crossfit training all together. No idea how the 2 go together, but either way, I gave up.

So today is the day, 1000 sit ups, 50 push ups and running 5 days a week.

What are you guys up to now that the weather is starting to change (well it's 30 here but it's still getting warmer with the occasional cold front).

1,000 sit-ups a DAY???? :cow: :cow: :cow: I haven't done 1,000 sit-ups in my lifetime!

Last night I rode Bob the Wonder Pony for the first time this year. So I'm back in the saddle 2-3 times a week, plus yoga class once a week and 2 other cardio sessions. I'm an indoor exerciser other than riding.
My husband would love to have a farm. He just married the wrong woman to do that with. ;) He always talks about owning a few cows, LOTS of sheep and definitely horses.

...and 1000 really isn't a lot. I always start with 500 (2 sets of 50 ...5 times a day). Then when that doesn't burn, I move to 2 sets of 100 ... 5 times a day. I'm a lazy person so if i can exercising on my back, I'm good at it. I stink at aerobics and why crossfit and I didn't last long although it was SO effective.
I joined a 24 hr gym last month and was going almost daily but then I got sick so I haven't been in almost a week.

The usual for me is 2 sets of 15 on 5 different weight machines targeting different areas 3-4 times a week, 2 sets of 25 situps two to four times a day, 2 sets of 20 pushups two to four times a day, and while it's still cold I use the treadmill on a fairly high incline at a fast pace for half an hour twice a day. Once it's warmer I'll start hiking again, usually 2 or 3 hours a day and mountain biking about 25 kms a day but not every day.

I got SO lazy this winter... drives me crazy.... I KNOW that I feel so much better when I exercise, and have more energy etc but just getting off my butt to actually do it is a problem once I've gotten out of the habit.
Walking, walking, walking. Im trying to up my distance and speed a bit each day. Bert would love it if we graduated to jogging, but I think Id better wait for dry (non-icy) roads first 8O . A twisted ankle has had me benched the last few days, but I think today Ill at least try to make it around the neighborhood :)
Oh, this is good!

I have been a slob. No exercise....
I work 12 hr shifts so it's dark before work and after work this time of year. :(
Living out of town is a downside, as I don't get back in to town to exercise - by the time I am home and have supper it's after 8pm. And the alarm goes off at 5:30 am for work...
And, this job is SOOO sedentary, it is killing me. I never have had a job that provides so little exercise opportunity!

Normally I get some exercise - 2 evenings a week I am teaching obedience for 2 hours each - and I am constantly moving. One evening Chewie and I have agility - but not that much exercise for me - just short bursts. Another evening I am working with a 10 month old 138 pound dane....that IS exercise!

Dog sledding 1-2 times a week helps, but it's not enough. And now it looks like we are on hold, as we've had days just above freezing, and nights back freezing, so it is nasty icy stuff - too dangerous.

As soon as we get a longer daylength, I am dying to get out and walk my 2+ miles after work each day. I really miss that. We walk really fast, and jog about 1/3 of it. Then on days off I can hit the trails and do some longer ones too - like we do every spring, summer and fall. :D
I have started trying to do Wii Fit Yoga every day - boy that balance board does not let one get sloppy about poses! I also am back to interval running on the treadmill in the morning and walking more now that we have some sun and its above freezing.

When we moved 4 years ago I lost my easy gym on the way to the office and its is killing me.
I finished running after not doing it for so long and now my entire body is like gumby. I felt great about it but running downstairs and eating an ENTIRE jar of jet puffed marshmallow creme with graham crackers probably wasn't my best choice. My poor moose begged for some the whole time, and I kept saying there wasn't enough for both of us. I'm so terrible.
well I am in grave danger of putting my weight back on. I do exercise, I go line dancing twice a week. But last night at line dancing I had one biscuit and this lady said you shouldnt eat those if you are eating healthy, so I had another. Then got home and ate chocolate, and today I have eaten 2 chocolate eggs! Once I start I go downhill fast. So from this minute I am only snacking on fruit! :-|

just been in the kitchen and had a bite of Brians chocolate muffin!! see what I mean!!
I just came off 2-1/2 weeks of non-stop "always something scheduled & happening". Hopefully now I can start walking on my treadmill until the weather breaks & I can walk outside. Years ago (pre-2000, when I blew out my knee :( at a dog show) I used to walk 5 miles a day probably 5 days a week. Lost a lot of weight & I really enjoyed it. It was like the further I walked the better I felt. :D We have nice walking paths here & nice neighborhoods I can go to also for a change of scenery. But since knee surgery & several rounds of supartz injections (and a total knee replacement on the horizon :( ) walking just isn't as enjoyable as before. I am thinking that maybe, just maybe, if I can get started again & then lose some weight my knee will feel better & I can enjoy the walking again. :lmt: The main thing is getting my mind set that I need to give myself this time everyday & not worry about everything else that needs done. I do get some exercise once a week at obedience class which is pretty much 1 hour of non-stop movement.
Now that the weather is warming, I plan on walking a LOT. I was always a heavy kid and at my largest I was a size 22 and 265lbs. In an 18 month span I went from 265 to 134 by walking. So I'll start that up again.

I have some lbs to strip and it's the best thing that works for me.

If it did we'd all be skinny minnies!
I'd like to start exercising. I think I can count the times on my hand that I've been to the gym since having the baby. And she's now 21 months old. That's not good. I don't need to lose weight, just tone up. Maybe doing Mrs J's 1000 sit ups a day might help :bulb:

I'm thinking I haven't been but 40 feet from this office all day.....and then to refill my tea cup...which actually has coffee in it. At least I did dress today!! No wait, I still have my sleep bra on underneath

At least you have to go to the office. My laptop sits on the dining table. And that is about 3 feet from the kitchen doorway.... :(
Walking on the treadmill at 4.5 incline at 3.5 pace for 5 miles 5 days a week. Sit-ups 2 sets of 25 three times a day. Push ups and curls with weights and lunges with weights 3 days a week.
I do feel really good when I exercise--it is just so time consuming! That is what makes it hard for me to stick to it long term--the time!
I am really trying hard to be dedicated for 6 weeks to lose 10lbs at this pace then I will adjust to maintain. That's the plan anyway--we will see!

My daughter bought me the Wi 'Your Shape" and I haven't yet given it a try--anyone out there use that?

 That's why I don't have a laptop, it would be IN the kitchen. Still keeing a desktop forces me out of the kitchen. My office is a spare bedroom and I'm trying to clean out 30 years of work junk. Drawings, pamphlets, etc are about gone, still left with a library full of horticulture type books......and cookbooks...and 2 dead computers, 2 monitors....etc. Oh the horror........

But this a.m. it is off to the pool for exercise :clappurple:
Speaking of exercise, I could use some advise. When I walk, I like to go on long walks. 6 miles would be a great walk for me. This is the problem I have. I enjoy taking the dogs. Wendel would never make 6 miles.

After 3 miles, he will plop his butt on the ground and will not move. Asterisk can go much longer. I would like to think I would get up early in the morning before work and go for a walk, but realistically, that will never happen.

I feel GUILTY if I don't take the dogs. Should I go on a long walk first and then bring the dogs for the rest? Vice versa? AAARRRGGGHHH!!
If Asterisk can go for the longer walk, take her and leave Wendel home. Then take Wendel on the shorter walk at a different time.
It is good for them to go seperately anyway. If they always walk together they can become dependant on the "group" for confidence.

I walk Chewie when I go on my long walks. Simon the Basset used to be able to do the long ones too, but he is getting old and I only go 2 miles max with him now. So, I take him and the Sr foster out for short ones.

Everybody gets some "mom" time, and I get more exercise = win situation!

AND - I personally feel safer out walking with a dog w/ me, instead of a female out there alone......

Can you just take Asterisk, and have some special one-on-one time with Wendel afterwards? I don't take Abby (my 11 year old girl) on long or intense (like deep snow, etc.) walks, and while I know she's going to be annoyed at being left when Bert gets to go, I make it up to her with extra Mama time later  I find its good for Eggbert to get some one-on-one time with me anyway :)
Jinx, Dawn
I think those ideas may work. I think I'd probably have to take Wendel first. He gets so upset when Asterisk and I went to our training and agility classes. He just cries and cries because he is left behind.

So maybe I'll take Wendel for a three mile walk, then come home and take Asterisk for a three mile walk. That way I get in my long walk and they get one on one time. Thanks everyone!

I just came back to read and at 1st thought "why did my post come out under raven's?? lol

Good luck walking everyone!!!! :clappurple:

I am resigned that most of my sledding is over for the year, so warm weather, here we come!
It is already 36F here and it's not even noon!!! Wow - above freezing :!:

Congratulations!! Your discipline really paid off. I also walk 2 mi a day - HOWEVER, ths snow was up above my knees so I have taken a hiatus. I love walking so will start up again now that the snow is gone. Patch does not like to walk at all, she loves to run and chase, but will quit walking after a block, so I have to walk alone.
I really don't like to exercise. I have an eliptical, many gym memberships. UGH!!!!!!
When I lost all of my weight a couple of years ago I walked 2 miles in the morning and 2 miles at night and did Jazzercise on weekends. That was before I got a dog. Now that Frankie has to take 2 walks a day for 2 weeks I will be out there.
I live on a gravel road which is a giant mud hole right now. We took him for a walk around the shore line of our lake yesterday. He wasn't to sure about that. He was only out there once when he was a pup in a boat.

Lisa and Frankie
My gravel road is getting nasty too. We had rain Saturday, and the frost isn't out, so it is all pooling. :?

I plan on walking tomorrow (Mon), and I hope it's not bad. If I'm smart I'll get out before noon and walk while it's still frozen.... :D

You don't need to do so many of the same exercise, though. There's really no great muscular benefit to doing anything over a few sets of 30 a day. I know how you feel though, it seems like if you can do them, you should do it until it hurts. I do 100 crunches and then do several other ab exercises to work the lower, middle and upper abs, that way I feel like it's a full workout and I break up 500 different ab exercises into different areas.

If you're looking for better results to get more tone and definition, it's better to add resistance or vary the types of ab exercises that you do. Try doing planks (side and regular), vertical and reverse crunches, leg raises-- stuff to work all the different muscles in the abdominals to keep them challenged. I use a medicine ball a lot for side abs and the exercise ball to vary up crunches.

We're going to Jamaica next month and I was feeling like a marshmallow creme-eating tub of goo, too, so I got serious a little over a month ago. Now I'm on a strict regimen: 3-4 times week elliptical of increasing intensity, weight train three times a week, 2 different body parts per workout, abs every workout (yeah, I still don't believe that I shouldn't treat them like other muscles either even if I know I should). Intermixed with walking the dogs a mile or a two a few times a week. Weight loss is less of a concern to me that just being toned and firm. I think dropping about 8-10 pounds will reveal better definition in my stomach, though. I plan to just eat and drink it all back when we actually get to Jamaica anyway since it's all-inclusive so all I'm really doing is creating a pit to fill, LOL.

How did you lose that much with just walking??? seriously I need to know!
I love to walk (with or without the woofies in tow). I'd gotten really really lazy about it over the winter. I used to just bundle up and walk anyway or get on the treadmill... I could walk my way thru 2 or 3 dvr'd shows with no problems. I've figured out with Hubs deployed I've used every excuse in the book to slack off. I've never lost pounds like that though.

BUT-- I'm back on track. Been walking everyday for the past week & 1/2. Feels good!!
im a blob.....realized that in hawaii....had prepacked in november (i switch out summer to winter clothes then)....didnt try anything on until i got there.....every single pair of shorts was tight and i mean TIGHT.....post menapausal, walking panda and working out one day a week are NOT cutting it......but i have a secret to fix it but cant tell you till it happens.....stay tuned
Hmmmm......interesting :)
