Temp. in house

I keep my house at 68-70 degrees is that to warm for my baby sheepie? He just seems to want to be outside all the time and will lay out on the back deck ! I know this sound stupid but I just want to make sure that he is comfortable. When he is in the house he plays and such but he lays around alot too.

At his age they still do a lot of sleeping. Bursts of crazy energy and long naps. Repeat...

Temps - that varies a lot with each dog. Our house is old (farmhouse) and the temp is set low, but a corn stove keeps the main part (kitchen/dining/living room area) pretty toasty. The heat lovers stick close.
Chewie prefers it cold - he goes on the entry porch and lays on the cement against the outside door. He always has been that way. He loves outside in the winter.
Only one time in almost 4 yrs have I seen him look cold - and that was after a sled dog race, he was tired, and had been outside and in the van back and forth throughout the day. He was tired too and damp from the snow. He slept on the way home, and was fine.
The dogs like to lay outside a lot because they like to "hear" and "smell" what is going on. My three go in and out alot. They will lay out in the hottest 95 degree sunny day and come in with their coat too hot to touch....all by choice because they have a doggy door.
I think they adjust. I don't think to anyone, that would be considered too warm for a dog even if you have a dog that likes it cold. Each house is different (sq footage, insulation, etc), so it's hard to tell what 68-70 is at YOUR house. We kept our house in AK at 64-65. Here we keep it at 68-74 and I can tell ya that someone is always cold here.

He just may want to be outside, and even if you changed your temp inside ...he'd still be begging to be out in the fresh air. ;)

We thought about getting a cooling pad for our dog to lay on inside.
Our house is 65 and even still since Glacier's been on thyroid, she wants outside!! Others seem just fine inside, avoiding the sunlight thru windows and not allowing me to throw my blankie over them when we nap.

Puppies do fine in cooler house temps.....he's got a good hairy body. Have a snuggie place for him........does he use a crate? Throw in a blankie, towel, etc and if he's cold he'll go curl up inside. You do have to think about drafts. You might want to personally test the area you've designated as his main sleep or crate area. Sit there awhile, while the furnace cycles on, and see if it is overly cold or hot.
During the day, when only the puppers are home, we keep the temp at about 55. About an hour before I get home, it goes up to about 68.

I come home and turn on the fireplace. Pearl will lay on the tuffet in front of the fire, I assume since she is a senior her body temp doesn't regulate as well.

But Heart will lay right by the back door against the cold glass...

I think they acclimate to any type of weather, and have their own way of getting warm or cool...
Our house at the hottest is at 72 degrees. When the dogs are in full coat, a degree above that and they take refuge in the basement where it is always much, much cooler. Or they demand to go on the porch to sleep.

Since the shave down, though, they are so cool that now I share my bed with Sheepies instead of them camping out on the floor.
Well I didn't even know that they had a cooling pad! I will definatly check into that. He likes to lay by the back door in the sunlight on the wood floor. He does like to lay out on the back deck alot. But I am really afraid that he might get into trouble. So it is just more convenient for him to be in the house. I just can't tell when he wants to be outside to go or just to romp!!
He is really getting good at whining when he wants out to go!! :) He hasn't went in his crate since 3 days after we got him. When I let him out at 2:00am he likes to go out and go but he likes to eat snow!! His ears are really warm too.
If your deck is elevated with rails around, staple chicken wire to create a temporary fence and put a baby gate at top of stairs. He'll have to ask to go down the steps for pee/poop. At least this way he is "corraled" while outside.

Of course hubby will probably faint when you tell him you want to add staple holes to the deck. But then "deck" is a four letter word that lives outside and gives you nothing but grief.
I had to laugh when I read your post! I have my elderly dad living with us. he is 85...I am going through the "changes" and like it cold. he is old and likes it warm...At night we or I should say I , keep it at about 65...only because he complains he is freezing! If it were up to me and the doggys, it would be more like 55!

The dogs seem to be okay with whatever we set the temp at - but it is NEVER over 70 at the MAX! That's more because of me than the doggys!

I will note however...they do push all their blankets out of the way and choose to sleep on the cold tile....Yet, in the summer, they sleep in the sun wehn its 90 degrees out and I ahve to fight with them to get into the shade... :? Go figure...
That makes me laugh about the deck. I looked over at the door tonight as we were all sitting around the kitchen table and he looked like a draft stopper!!! Sprauled out along the bottom of the door. :D :D :D . What a investment he is   , He will pay me back in 2 years with savings on my electric bill   Who would have thought
