AND WITH REAL SHEEP.....

APRIL 17TH. OR 24TH.

I NEED FEEDBACK, WHICH WEEKEND WOULD WORK FOR WHO ??????????
Both the dates are open at this time, so we should book NOW>

This is Login Raspberry Ridge Sheep Farm, Eastern Pennslyvania, (find on net)
We are invited to enjoy a day at the farm. Available will be a Minor Herding test with an overview and a picnic. Cost will be determined by the amount of Sheepies that particapate. All is Welcome, and would love to see a great spring turnout.
I have catered for years, so a great "PICNIC" will be included..........promise.
Cost will be between $50 and $65 for the use, testing and overview review given, and to cover food cost.
Make plans now by responding to this post, or message me, We'll put together a great time.
Someone just secure the weather.......WHAT'S BETTER THAN A "HERD" OF SHEEP OWNERS???
Looking to hear from all, Mike and SWEET MOLLY BROWN, Spring will have Sprung !!!
Respond to this topic here on forum.oes.org
Here's the link http://www.raspberryridgesheepfarm.com/index.aspx. MArleya nd Morgan did their first - never before have I seen sheep - test there. Carolyn is very nice. If the weather is good it should be a nice day. Unfortunately we have other committments,
24th is better for us. 17th is the Harrisburg Kennel Club dog show.
24th weekend for us too!
its about 3 hrs from me. Let me see if I can make it.the 24th would be better
THAT'S ENOUGH TO CONVINCE ME...................

THE 24TH. WILL WORK FOR ME TOO..........LET'S GO !

WE NEED MORE PARTICIPENTS, BUT WE WILL LOCK IN APRIL 24TH. AND PLAN ACCORDINGLY.
COME ON EASTERNERS
HERE'S HOPING MANY MORE COMMIT, WOULD LIKE TO SEE ABOUT "10" SHEEPIES......Molly. :clappurple:
Wonder if we can get a special rate at the B& B I would probably stay a night or two :)
I have a request in to Carolyn to return my call from yesterday...........she does seem to be a busy woman !!!!! If I don't hear from her soon, I'll be calling again.
SURE HOPE WE GET A LITTLE LARGER RESPONSE.............
Cindy she has accomodations at the farm (at least she used to and it used to be around $75 anight)

She is a VERY hard woman to communicate with. - try email and phone calls.
Is that the B and B or something else??? I guess I won't try calling
Cool, we're in, let me know what you need us to do... :D
I have to see what the vet says about my boys r hip. He may not be able to take all the activity yet. and my girl ....well just say she is on probation for now
Cindy Carolyn might be the right person to take Molly to see - especially if Guiness stays home and you can focus on her. She was very very good with both my dogs, her instinct testing starts out without the dogs in contact with the sheep - it would all be very safe. no dogs intermingle during the process, it is all very one on one. And I had two - she seperated them so I had time to recrate etc.
Molly is not focusing on me much less sheep  I have been working her for about 15 min a day and will increase her training as she begins to develop a brain......... Guinness is my first pick but I don't think he is ready for all the twists and turns involved. He is good with the lambs next door but they are all show sheep (of meat  ) and don't have a clue. I never knew sheep were so dumb No offence meant to sheep people
the test doesn't require attention. It really is meant - the way carolyn does it - to see if the dog is intereted in the sheep and do they want ot include you in the picture. Whe we did it the sheep are in a pen, the dog on the outside and she checks for things like sustained interest, balance etc. No obedience or training required. Actually my own herding instructor the other day said something about dogs should be required ot go on sheep BEFORE they have any obedience 8O
Didn't even know this place existed, and it's right in my back yard! Bangor, PA is only about 20 minutes away from me.

Would love to meet with everyone there, but Sam probably won't do the herding. We are surrounded by farms and one of them have sheep who are usually out in the field. Dale walked her by them once and she almost climbed into his arms! Such a scaredy-dog!

Count us in!
 Chris, don't discount the herding part of it. Even if you don't try/test her this time around, make sure she gets to watch the other dogs work. Some dogs don't seem to get the stock/herding connection until they've seen other dogs having fun. Then suddenly they want in on it too.

The first time Belle came face to face with stock the herding instinct testing was already in progress. She took one look at another OES at work and started causing such a ruckus I had to walk her out of sight till it was her turn

Kristine
ALso Carolyn is very good at working with sheepish  dogs. I saw two pugs (yes pugs) instinct tested and she worked to bring out any latent instincts.

Most herding instructors will tell you the instinct test is nice, but they can usually bring a dog along to get to the point where they are interested. But first they do have to meet sheep
JUST SPOKE WITH CAROLYN

This sounds like alot of fun! Am I understanding there is no prerequsite training for the "herding test"? Is there an age range? My dogs have never seen sheep...But I think the younger one would love it!

I am checking my work schedule to see if the 24th is good and I think I will be joining you all!!!!
Diane
I just checked my work schedule and I am soo in...Just pm you with details...
UPDATE

AS OF St.Patrick's Day we have 6/7 committments.
************LOOKIN GOOD********************
BUT... there is room for more.
I'll be in touch with all those that have interest before the end of the month.
Mike
YIPPEE!!!! I am in!!!! Taking both my babies...Bowie, three and Bella one and a half...YIPPEE!!!!

I am a bit nervous as we have never done anything like this before. We do go to obedience class but REAL SHEEP! Bowie saw a cow for the first time and ran like the wind from it....

I'm wondering...is there a time schedule for the testing and festivities...wondering if we should stay over rather than make the three hour hike back home at night...Did anyone find out if there are rooms available at the farm?

Diane
Diane, as posted above with announcement:
Carolyn has rooms, B&B type, as she states - moderate rooms.......
Dogs can stay also, the price she gave me was $90.
Hold off till we get the group plans and we'll attempt a "group price" where ever we decide to stay with how ever many want to stay.
But you're counted IN :rimshot: so be sure your calendar is marked and hold that excitement for watching the sheepies go "herding" those sheepies...........and don't forget the camera :cow: :cow: :cow: :D
I'm in with 2 and I'll send you an email!
Well, because I always jump the gun, I already contacted Carolyn and reserved a room with her for Saturday night. We'd rather come in early saturday morning, have our fn and testing, and not ahve to get through NYC trafic on a Saturday night so we are staying over at the Farm Saturday night....Should I have waited to reserve???? Sorry...

Carolyn says she has a few other rooms. They include a continental breakfast as well. Not sure what "moderate" rooms means but who cares...Our room has a queen size bed, another bed I think, heat, a/c, and small refrig and breakfast...I don't need anything else! She even had crates if we need them...

I am SOOOOO excited to meet everyone and their dogs...
Diane
LOOKIN GOOD....................... :clappurple: :clappurple:

IT is coming along great, with a month to go, I'll bet we get our 10 dogs to particapate. We'll all enjoy the sheepie country and fresh PA. air........I'm off to Chicago for 5 days, will PM everyone when I return.

Mike
I think you guys are going to have a wonderful time. I've also worked with Carolyn and my first instinct test was with her. She is kind, loves the dogs, has a nice place with lots of pastures (a bit rough but pretty) and loves to mingle with dog people.

Tell her Judy and Mick say hello!

I wish you all wonderful weather!
I just saw this thread now; we only live 1.5hrs away. I'd really like to take Wilson... it will be a hoot to see him with other sheepdogs. Not sure about the sheep, he's a big scardy cat, but we'll see. Is it too late to RSVP? Do you have 10 already?

-Ashley
