Black hair spots
 I'm so hoping these neighbors (renters) will move so we can get rid of the flea problem in the yard. Any advise or info will be greatly appreciated. |

| I'm wondering about this too; Tonks has a couple of spots from where she was "wounded" playing too rough as a pup. They are now sprouting long black hairs; I just assumed they'd always be black, and it didn't dawn on me to ask if they ever become gray. Do they? |
| I call it trauma hair, a spot of distressed skin and the hair in that spot does come back jet black. Yes will settle down if skin trauma is under controll but will have to grow out. Example when my Kels had a cyst removed the hair grew in that spot from the surgery grew back jet black, it eventually grew out and back to a silvery grey.  |
| Tonks has one from a puncture wound she got from a stick in our yard, and another that was always a "mystery wound". Sort of a "hey; what happened to Tonks?" moment. We figure Luna probably happened to Tonks, but Tonks probably had it coming. |
| Trauma spots eventually stop growing black hair, the hair starts changing to grey so you'll have black tips which disappear into surrounding grey. It takes months for the changeover. Best to just forget about it and know it will change. Being still in "the change" the months might be slightly longer. White hair comes back white, no trauma change. |

I know my beardie would grow darker on the hotspot site...I didn't know why. Heart just had a cyst removed, so I guess I should watch for black hair??? WOW..it should look interesting, since Heart is very grey??? Another adventure!!!!!!   |
| Well Val - Marley's hair grew back grey where the cyst was removed. One of Morgan's grew back black - a very thin black line - in his whites. |
| Val depends on how much trauma to the skin has happened, with Kels we had the cyst come up, burst left a hole in the side, dried up, went away then filled up again, after it happened a 3rd time with it bursting, surgery was the only option. So depends on each situation, have heard also hot spots or dogs with allergies where the skin is constantly irritated and tramatised then yes in the grey area it seems to grow back black when the hair is sprouting again from a bald patch. Hence why I call it trauma hair Kelsey had a punk stripe for a little while when the coat sprouted again as she all her life stayed a light silvery grey colour so was very noticeable.  |
| Asterisk has two patches of black spots on her coat. I never noticed these until she was shaved down. Her overall coloring is a very silvery grey. She will be two in May and even last year, these spots were there. I just chalked them up to parts of her puppy coat that were just resistant to changing color. I don't recall her every having trauma in those spots. |
