How often do you groom your dog and for how long?

I'm sure it varies a lot from person to person and it also depends on the days of the week, but I wanted to know how often and how long you spend grooming on an average basis.

mequpak: religiously once a week, 1.5hrs and at that point, I'm mostly done. I have to stop because 1) dog is tired 2) kids need me 3) I've got things to do. This is how long I used to do Yuki as well.

I've started to do yuki every other day for about 10-15 min ...if that. If I do this, it's just brushing through with 0 matts or even tangles. With her joints starting to make her uncomfortable, brushing her more often makes it a breeze for her.

They are never 100% brushed due to life just being busy, but if anyone felt them ...it would seem like they were. :)
Maizie is clipped as she hates being groomed~ Hatttie is in semi coat so around 2hrs once/twice a week :)
Inca is pretty much in full coat, and we groom once a week for about 60-90 minutes and it keeps her mat free :D - though ears/trimming etc. is all additional time on top of that
Pearl...14 yrs old. She has a lot of hair, but it is on the thin side. She rarely mats so I brush her about once a week for about 1/2 hour. She gets a bath and brush at the groomers about once a month.

Heart...2 yrs...She has a lot of hair on the fuzzy side, easier to mat, so I brush her about 3 time a week, for about 1-2 hours at a time. She gets a bath and brush at the groomers about once a month too!!!
Rarely ever. Once Edgar's hair starts getting long enough that it is getting mats in it, I shave him down. I used to comb him a lot more when we lived in Arizona, but with our current house renovations it's just to much of a hassle. He was always so white and sparkly before and now he is a grunge boy. I'm looking forward to having a shoes off completed house sometime again. Then my white sparkly boy will be back again. And I won't mind sitting on the floor combing him once more :)
It depends on coat length. In full coat, I alternate dogs. Every day alternating dogs for an hour. It takes longer on wash/dryer days, perhaps close to two hours, so I stagger bathing days.

Right now they are shaved other than their heads, so brushing lasts less than 10 minutes.
Full coated dog, once a week for about an hour. Other than that they get shaved a couple times a year and I start brushing again every couple of weeks when they have more than an inch of coat.
Oh Morgan gets a few minutes every few days - tonight I have to do his ears. Marley gets brushed out fully every day or two (very occassionally only feet) but she is in full coat and Morgan is shaved.

What is considered full coat? I always thought that was pretty long hair like many pics I've seen of maxmm and lisaoes' dogs ...and not just 5-6 inches which I typically keep my dogs (at LEAST)? Is her hair much longer than that? I guess I've missed any recent pics of Marley.
Full coat would be anything that would be competitive in the (adult) classes. Generally what you are talking about. The longer & much fuller coats are what is called specials coats.
You've probably seen them and not recognized her

Our issue is I actually let her play out in the snow and then have to do damage patrol.
I've seen that BEAUTIFUL pic of her, but like I said... I would have always looked at that as short hair since it looks like it's just the face that's long. :? Just seems weird to say my dog or the many I've seen on here have been in full coat all these years when they really just look like they've got short hair. Yuki's hair has only been clipped to about an inch about twice in her life. Otherwise, it's been about 3-6 inches. She just doesn't get that fluff look that mequpak can get. People would always ask if I'm growing it out more rather than "wow, a dog in full coat."

I'm probably not making sense but I continue to learn things from this forum. I have seen many show dogs come through here in the years, and they seem to always say their dogs had short hair when their body was at that length. :? Mequpak's hair is "short" imo but if I fluffed it up, it would be about as long as your dog minus the head.

Good to hear there's a "special coats" category.
J I'm guessing because you thin out Yuki's undercoat you'll never get the fullness you see in your boys' coat. He is mostly undercoat at that age, and so even if you tried to thin it somewhat it wouldn't be the same. Different lines and even different dogs within the same lines grow different coats too... I find the less coarse the coat the fluffier it looks except when you trim for show, then the coarser coats stand out from the body more if they have sufficient undercoat in addition to correct texture.

You can't really see her body coat in that picture. Her shawl is still in a wrap actually. All I know is show people say she has a lot of coat.
I must be the slowest groomer in the world   For me everyday is brush day with one or another dog.

Anywhere from 4-6 hours once a week on one or sometimes that runs into day 2 depending on what the pack has got up too through the week. By the time one is done another is due, try to do all at least once a week and not let it go any longer, especially while the two munchins are coat changing as well. The matt fairies are breeding at the moment. :x

We also have the dogs in much longer coats so I suppose that answer the question of why I am the worlds slowest groomer. times that by 3 fully coated dogs now everday is brush day !!. :P

Tiggy's coat is long (not quite as long as the photo in Lisa's pic) and changing at the moment so I'm spending 4-6 hours a week usually in 2 sessions to keep it from getting matted.
Since the show coat is gone, as well as no coat transitions at the moment, we are sitting pretty here!!! :D :D :D

Basically, I groom most everyday, as I never take Chewie (or any of my dogs) out in public without them being well groomed and clean. And Chewie goes to class w/ me Monday and Thursdays, he has his agility class on Tuesdays, events on many weekends, and therapy dog visits as well.

I also wash his face/beard before we go out too. I'd say it takes me about 15 minutes to do it all and be out the door.
I do brush him out each time after we do any harness sport, so mats don't form, so that saves time in the long run.
Lisa who is the second dog there? The coat really looks like the same texture as Ru and I don't seem to see that very often. Am I right in thinking you guys & us British keep the hair longer than the US for show? The cut that sheepie has is more like the show dogs we see over here. Can you pop over and give Ru a trim for me? Haha

Back on topic.. I've just got Ru's grooming down to once a week for about 3 hours, depending on how much energy I have (more energy= faster grooming) Rufus is 2.5 years. I guess he's in full coat. What am I saying??!! He is definitely in full coat as I've not even stripped any this year yet. His hair is 12", shorter around the face.
That's Brie ala Natural not done up in show boof. Yes your right longer here like the UK and also Europe. Not so scissored/sculptured into shape as you see elsewhere for the showring.

Any chance you could come over here and enforce the part of our standard that says no scissoring except for a small bit on the rear legs?
billy demands grooming daily. after i have groomed a clients dog i let my dogs out for a bit, he dives in the grooming room puts his paws on the table and waits, if i dont appear he barks till i give him a bunk up and groom him.
so he gets a quick 5-10 minutes brush a few times a day, he wont leave the table till his had a treat and a squirt of perfum... tart! and then on a sunday he gets a full groom for about an hour.
its such a joy that after grooming dogs 6 days a week on my day off i get to groom and sometimes bathe my own lol!
