Table Size

What size grooming table do you use? My dog is about 110 pounds and big!

I think mine is 24" x 36". Though, in hindsight now that Asterisk is 75lbs and Wendel is 88lbs, I really wish I had saved up for a hydrollic grooming table. Would have saved my back!
I have a 48" and am so glad I didn't go an inch smaller. From them backing up and me needing room for my other brushes/sprays... it's perfect!! 42" and 48" is the most common the several times I have asked on here. 42" is easier to carry around from what I hear.
They do have a hydraulic one on sale at groomers.com. It has a foot pedal but the size was 24 x 36. I have a 36 stable one now aqnd it seemed a bit small for my guy but I wasn't sure they came any bigger. Neither of mine enjoy the grooming process much and we get alot of dancing in place, backing up, etc so the larger sizse might be bigger...Now to find it at a good price and without getting killed on the shipping!

Yeah, that's way small for a big dog. I have a 42" and a 48." I actually like the 42" better just because it's easier to move around and seems a bit more stable. That six inches seems to really add more bounciness. It's probably that it's a cheaper table, too, though.
I have the 42". All of the dogs can use it - some with more room than others.

Why are you lifting? Feet up - boost the butt (usually its more guidance than boosting) Morgan and B don't get ont he table often, but they never woould if I had to lift them.

Boy, do I wish I could 'Boost the butt". As much as I try to get their front paws up on the table, that stubbornness takes over and they put their paws right back down.
I agree with Jill. I have all 3 sizes. 36, 42 & 48. My girls can handle the 36" but I like the 42" best. That's the one I take to shows. The 48" I keep up at home in the grooming room. It's harder to take with me although I do so when I have to. Very bulky & heavy.
I had a 42" one then updated to 46" as needed that longer & stonger as far as weight & size goes for the boy now.

You need to train it when you aren't preparing to groom.

Yep, you do need to train it. Mine tried it, but that isn't how things work.

I have a 36" and a 48". The pink one is the smaller one, and it's the one we took to shows. The 48 is super heavy duty, but also super heavy. I used it for shows until we got the smaller one. Now it lives at home.
Maybe if I had a 42"...I'd have something to go off of (like the weight difference and pulling out and together all the time), but I use the 48" all the time and am pretty weak. Remember, they call my olive oyl. It's kept in the garage and I bring it in to groom weekly. Anyway, it's not heavy at all. This is coming from the perspective that this will be used at home and not for a show. I didn't know if the OP showed her dog though.
I wanted to add that I'm only saying the above in case there are other readers considering one and are worried the 48" one is this monstrous thing. I'm sure those that show know what they're talking about. ;)
i have had a 38" one since i started grooming and i have never found a dog that doesnt fit on it apart from a newfoundland which i use a 48" one, but then i had to pick it up to get it off the table as it had a bad front leg. oh the joy of lifting an 8.5 stone dog!

today i had the proud delivery of a 46" hydraulic table that goes down to the floor 14". i love it its going to make life so much easier

but if anybody in the uk wants a 36" hydraulic table but it goes up higher but only back down to normal height. i have one for sale £50 never had any problems with it at all, i paid £200. its 2 years old. i am in cheshire but if your interested and are too far away i would happily pack it for a courier.

I used to lift Tiggy but when I had to start bathing her nail bed infection twice a day I decided to teach her paws up. I used her all time favorite dog biscuits that she hardly ever gets and she learnt really quickly. I was putting her up there and not grooming her and she wasnt there long, however she didnt really like having her foot dunked in water and stuff put on her toe and she still picked it up in no time.

After a couple of days she surprised me one morning by jumping all the way up by herself. I was just about to bend down to boost her butt and she nearly knocked me out. I just call out "paws up for a biscuit" and she comes running and gets up by herself now.

I also give her the biscuit when I put her down but only if she waits for me to assist her down. She will stay on the table while I sweep up around it now. Wayne was amazed when he saw her stay there the other day while I was getting the broom etc. I havent tried leaving the room though. :D
Some of mine jump up, some do paws up. None of them are SUPPOSED to jump down. Yet I have more than once had to chase a wet younger dog around the house

Foster dogs get their front paws lifted up and their butts hoisted up before they know what happened to them. I never even think about it. A few would prefer not, but my grooming motto is "resistance is futile". I have too many dogs to mess with this.

Even the resident rescue dog does paws up now. I've never used cookies to train it - maybe it's a spillover from teaching the agility table, where I've always used plenty. Of course, I occasionally find the dogs on my kitchen and livingroom tables, so some training can be a mixed blessing :P

I have the 42" grooming tables and smaller OES, so plenty of room. I've groomed on 36" and it works fine, but I prefer the extra space.

I bought a stainless steel work table from Costco on sale (about $110, I think) that I keep in the garage. It's 24"x48" and I put a cheap rubberized yoga mat on top that fits perfectly that I bought for $6. When I use it I put a box next to the end of the table and both dogs walk right up up. I never had to train them, they just knew what I wanted somehow.

24" x 36" can be used for shorter grooming sessions or smaller Bobtails. However for full line grooming sessions on big males this size just won't "cut-it". That being said, if you have any woodworking skills it is not a big project to make a cleated top that will fit over the orignal. You could easliy upgrade to 42" x 30" and even 48" x 30" would be doable. Just be preapared to down size a 48" x 30" if it proves to be unstable (ie leans over too much because of a large dog's offset weight or rocks due to the dog's movements). I've been considering doing exactly this modification to a hydraulic table of the design referenced above once I get my grooming room operational, hopefully in the next month or so!!

Thanks and Cheers

I have a 48 at home and for shows. It folds and lifts easy. I took a 36 to WKC and wish I had my big one. Big guys need room. Never again, I'll look for a 42 for limited space shows. I also do the feet and butt lift. It's so easy!  Yeah, dead weight is sooo light. But most days Apolo will work with me. :)
I have a 36" and Lola used to jump right up on it. She also loved to jump on it when I left it in the entry hall to welcome visitors.
I also have one of the tall plastic dog baths in the dog run. Both Lily and Lola would jump up into it to have their paws washed. Sometimes at the same time.
So far Maggie has been fine with being on the table. She was an angel when I bathed her. The only thing she had issue with was the blow dryer. She made some funny noises while it was on.
I always teach "Paws Up" then you only have to hoist the fat butt up then.
