Woof and The Bump - Behaviour During Pregnancy

Hello all -

Just after your experiences really. The behaviour of Woof has changed markedly since my wife became pregnant. If fact, looking back on it, I swear he knew before we did as he started becoming very attentive to my wife, and would lay his head on her tummy at every opportunity.

All of this is very cute. However, there does also seem to be an increased "jealousy factor" especially when I come into close contact with Jacqui, or even more specifically, talk to the bump. He will either nose his way in between us (I can't help smiling at this one), or become very vocal.

In fact, he's become a lot more vocal all round - not barking, you understand, he doesn't do a lot of that, but whining and yowling (I swear to God he's trying to speak!)

Any thoughts, experieces or advice out there? Is this a similar heaviour to the human older sibling insecurity?

Congratulations!
I didn't notice any difference here, but I have heard that this does happen. I have a friend who's dog got very upset and became aggressive to the pregnant mom. He was a best buddy before. He ended up needed to be rehomed, as they couldn't get it resolved.
Thankfully, all ours always stayed very interested and no issues. It probably helped that I still was working w/ them, training and showing the same as I always did. And, all were baby lovers when baby was born as well.

Congrats!
My cat changed his behavior when I was pregnant...he started PEEING ON ME while I slept at night. And decided even after I was done that peeing on me was the right thing to do. He now sleeps in the bathroom :clappurple:

As for dogs, I think they know there's something going on. It doesn't sound like he's getting aggressive or anything. I say just keep giving him attention like always and it will be okay.

Congrats!!
Congratulations!!!

It seems he knows and I have read that some scientists believe that dogs can tell a lot of health stuff through their sense of smell.

I was wondering do you "talk to the bump" in the same/similiar voice to the one you use to talk to Wolf? He might be confused about who is getting the attention.
more than a few scientists believe they can sense our health. i've read a few articles over the years. but, i'm sure he can hear that babys heartbeat if close enough also. :)
