Frankies first night home

Hi everyone:
We picked Frankie up last night. We were told during the day that he was happy was walking on all 4 legs, which I guess is unusual for most dogs after this surgery especially since his was so invasive. He's eating and drinking also. When they brought him out he was doing the sheepie shimmy, he was so happy to see us

When we got him home he's walking on all fours barely putting pressure on his left leg. His crying got so bad around 10 oclock, that I called the emergency vet to see if I could give him more tramadol. They said he could have 1 more, he then slept pretty good woke up at 2 had to go out to potty then slept until 7:00.

He is on Tramadol and an Antibiotic. He can only go outside on a leash for 4-6 weeks.
This morning he's not walking on his leg, he's hobbling around on 3.

Poor kid :( . How long does the recovery take?
He should be fully recovered by the end of the 4 weeks. Then he'll get a month break and we will do the right shoulder.

Swelling picks up on days 2-3 so I would expect more pain. A few days more and it should be a lot better. :D
Hugs and love to Frankie.

We went through something similar when our Theeps had a TPLO (actually he had more than one knee surgery and it was hard each time).

The good news is that after a few days the owies will ease up and he'll feel better. Soon it will be tough to keep him as still as he needs to be.

My heart goes out to you. It's so hard to watch them when you know they're in pain. I just wish there was a way to get a message through to them in times like this. ("I know you're hurting, but in a few days you'll feel much better. Just hang on.") Or something like that.

Sheepie love and kind thoughts to you both from our crew.
Poor Frankie  Its so hard on him AND you I'm sure.

Just a thought, they sell a special type leash which goes under the behind and sort of lifts the dog without them having to put weight on their legs. It might be something to look at since you have a few weeks for this recovery and then another one down the road. I've seen it at a site called handicapped pets. Also in some pet supply catalogs. Not sure if the vet wants him on his legs or off them as much as possible but this would probably help him ( and you ) in walking him for pottys.

Hope he feels better soon.
I know how hard this is. Our yorkie had a luxated patella, and had to have sugery. I hope Frankie starts to feel better quickly. I also hope that you do too.

:ghug:
:ghug: hugs to both of you.
Just hang in there and hugs to you and frankie :ghug:
Awwww...hugs to Frankie and fam. Hope he feels better soon
