CBA (Cilliary Body Ablation)

I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this procedure. The doctors are doing the injection form as opposed to the laser.

I know it will help decrease the pressure in his eye but I was just wondering if he will experience pain afterward - I have pain meds if need be. Just curious as to what I can expect. All they said was that it will look angry and nasty for a little while.

I'm just basically a worried mom.

I never heard of this procedure but hoping your baby is feeling better. I would imagine if its the pressure in the eye its a necessary procedure and might be a bit painful after. Also might be extra sensitive to light? Draw the drapes/curtains and follow the recommendations for pain killers from the vet.
Good luck.
Thank you!

Yes the procedure is necessary given the drops he is currently on are not helping release the pressure. I didn't even think about light sensitivity...definitely will take that under advice.

What the procedure is: the injection in the eye damages the part of the eye that creates the fluid (which his eye can't properly release) so that it won't create the fluid nearly as much.

This all started bc my boy didn't pay attention and ran into a fence post...it knocked his lens loose and that eventually blocked the fluid creating a blind boy w/ glaucoma. =P

I definitely have learned a lot over the past few months.
Poor Baby! I know some humans who have problems with pressures in their eyes and I know they've had procedures - don't know if its the same as yours - and come to work with sunglasses a few days. They wear them inside and we don't even have any windows so do ask about the light sensitivity.

Is this repairable? How old is your dog? Amazing how crazy things happen just by running outside! I don't let my two run after dark because I am always afraid of them hitting into something. My husband says I am an overprotective worrier. I'll pass this story on to him

Good Luck.
Yes the light sensitivity is something I will be asking about.

Riley is 3. It happened sometime in the late morning - I was @ my work and my dad was in the yard with him. He heard another dog just went to run along the fence and apparently hit quite hard. Unfortunately there's nothing they can do about the vision. The lens luxation is what caused the glaucoma, which caused the blindness. The procedure is to stop the pressure from building so it doesn't get worse.

It stinks that it can't be fixed but I'm @ the point where I just want him to be comfortable, and not in pain (which he periodically is).
Good Luck to your baby and hope he recovers quickly and with as least amount of pain as possible. Three us still such a baby. So scary how stupid things can happen and make such a big impact! If we can keep them out of pain, that is what is important. Hope he does well with the surgery. You can e mail me privately if you need to talk. My thoughts are with you....
Thank you very much!

He goes in tomorrow, I'll definitely let you know how it goes. I'm so nervous words can't even describe. I'm more nervous about the anesthesia than anything else (working @ a vet clinic I've seen some crazy things).
So everything went beautifully.

They took him first because we were just hanging around Gainesville bc we live 2 hours away - which was so nice.

He's going to be uber-sensitive, tender for a while so he's got pain meds. He'll also be wearing a cone to make sure he doesn't scratch or rub @ it. I also have sedatives in case he gets too rammy until his recheck.

He's still dopey but doing well. They were wonderful people - well worth the 2-2and a half hour drive up there.
If he's going to be wearing a cone for any extended amount of time, you might want to lool at the"comfy cone". You can get it at PEtco...Its much more comy that the regular plastic e collar. I tried the other type collar...Like a doughnut thing - doesn't work. But the "comfy cone" is great. Its soft and they can drnk and eat out of it and it doesn't kill the walls!

Glad everything went well. Keep posted on his progress. Its probably harder on you then him!

Sending lots of positive well wishes and good thoughts :ghug:
Yay it's done! :D
