umbilical hernia???

you know that saying about a little information.......

i collected my 10week oes on friday, he is fit and healthy, but about an our ago i noticed a lump on his underside, looks like a sticky out belly button, but it wasnt there earlier and oddly i cant find it now. could this be a hernia? or something to do with him being so young? i have searched the sight and have now frightend myself, even though it seems not to be serious.

I can't advise you but will say you should always get a vet check within the first few days of bringing home a new pup. Even if the breeder says the pup has a clean bill of health, its a good time for your new pup to meet the Doc and get used to being handled by a Vet and for the Vet to check him/her out.
he has an appointment in the morning, having his vacination and mot. i will ask the vet, it may appear for him.
Far chance it could be a problem, hopefully he'll grow into his outie. He's still a baby! If it is just the adbomen wall hasn't healed and a bit of intestine is coming out, it's not big deal to have it properly positioned by the vet. yes, ideal time to "Meet the Vet."
Well, AND pics of the new puppy!!
How is he??
i am trying to find a user friendly photo loader, i cant get the hang of them. i have got as far as one pic in the antics album, but need to re-read the instructions. its too big to use a avitar.

off to the vet now.
Lesley if you send me the photo i will resize it for you :D
ok, vet visit went ok, of sorts, cappi is under weight, which i knew, he does have a hernia but its nothing to worry about. he had his second jab and can go public next week.

vet was very helpful and gave me some websites to check out deaf dog training.

cappi is in his crate at present trying to get used to the door being closed...but thats another forum.
Geesh, can't believe I hadn't mentioned

Having umbilical hernias is not that uncommon, in any breed. If it needs repair it is usually quite simple.

My friend's now 4 yr old samoyed had one as a puppy, and it was repaired before they got him. They had some concern initially, when they were picking out their pup. They liked him best based on temperament testing, but had concerns about the hernia.
Turns out is was no trouble at all - in fact he is super athletic and never has had any trouble with it. This past fall at their Nationals he placed 1st in their national Weight Pull! He is also the only Gr Champion on record in another weight pull organization.
thanks, i realise now, its a common ailment. although i didnt last night, new pup, everything is big and scary, for me that is
my duffy had one it was repaired when he got fixed
I had no idea what one was either until Inca's breeder told us Inca had one before we brought her home. It got repaired when she was spayed (which I think caused us a bit more drama with recovery, but pretty sure that was just Inca.. she's weird about her tummy anyway :? )
