male or female?

I actually like the name Steve for a dog. For either gender. My husband thinks I'm crazy though.
I used to spend time thinking of regionally appropriate names for the dogs: English names for the Sheepdogs, Swiss name for St.Bs, Russian names for Siberians, Irish names for wolfhounds.........but now I just give them "people" names unless they had a name coming to me. (the Pyrs all came with names) I know you are suppose to change rescues' names, but for me they just fit and the dog reacted more quickly.

So I'll be no help, afterall, the last two dogs I names are Harry and Jack. Creative? naw. My last creative spark was Chad (a Beardie) right after the hanging Chad incident.....but he died suddenly.

Make the name a distinctive sound easily heard at dog parks, etc. When their mind is engaged in something else, having a good, sharp name pulls them out quicker.

I had a horse named Steve :D

He came with that name. He was a quarter/appaloosa gelding, and cream colored with white blaze and spots and blue eyes. But the spots only showed right after a bath!
I kinda feel bad that we haven't given the original poster any name ideas yet

Without a pic, or a personality description, I'm a bit stumped, but...here are some random sheepie girl names:

Because Im in a literary kind of mood...

Beatrix (Potter!)

Dorthy (as in Wizard of Oz)

Alice (as in Wonderland)

We're looking at names our puppy was born on a Tuesday so Tuesday is leading with our T names for pets. The kids joke that we could get 6 more puppies 8O as there are still 6 days left in the week.

Husband joked he liked Friday, after the character in the book. (also who doesn't like Friday?) 8)
Greg will crack up, he wants to call everything Steve for some reason.

Here are my suggestions

Suzie
Candy
Elfie
Emily

Lets see pics!

Themes are great. I knew a family that named all their pets after Jazz artists. They had a Dizzy, Bo, Miles, etc.
Mine are named after favorite songs. Unchained Melody, Duke of Earl, Call th' Wind Mariah, Written in The Stars...... Most of the time the call names come out of the song (Melody, Mariah, Star). Sometimes they don't (Isaac). Except for José. I let my son name him. I should have known better! But all the judges got a laugh out of it when I'd say "Ok José...nice & easy now"   The Spanish Old English!
I've had a few odd names for my female dogs: Calamity Jane (she lived up to the name :D ); Scooter (cause she had worms); Wilhelmina (so I could call her Willie after my college's mascot); and now Duchess Winifred (we call her Winnie, after Winnie the Pooh cause she looks like a bear from the back).

A few other thoughts: Amanda Panda (if she is b&w); Dammit (as in "Here Dammit!"); or Ron (LOL - after the site admin cause he always suggests the name Ron).
Mardi

(French for Tuesday)

Or you could change it to Martie...or some variation.

But again, I tell you, a little girl named Steve...priceless.
Mine are named on a french theme except for the boy we have now, just after his birth my hubbys uncle passed away so in tribute to him Syd was given to him. I would of preferred Matisse, Andre, something frenchy along those lines but I respected hubbys desire to name him after his loved uncle.

Here is a link to over 2000 names 8O

Just to confuse you even more, most important wait till the little darling is home and look at the personality etc to see what you think might be is fitting of that OES.

When my Brie came to me from O/S at the time she was named "Charlotte", a name I chose, when she arrived after a few weeks we changed it to Brie(Bree) She came to that did not respond at all to Charlotte.   So the name game is a hard one till you see what fits the individual
All our pets get nicknames

Rastus (Dalmo) became Ratboy or Ratty - because he is, well probably was he's 7 now.

Denzi (siamese cat) is definitely NOT a Denzi so he is now Rowdy; he is definitely a rowdy. So much so that I changed his name on our vet's records.

Tiggy (OES) gets Tiggy Wig or Wiggins 8O Well you should she what her hair looks like first thing in the morning.
We had a Dukes Of Hazard theme going:

Flash (ok, I know he ws a bloodhound :D )
Beau
Luke
Rosco
Daisy

Then I went with name I lked so we have Gabriel, Jonah, and Zachary :)
Previous spelling errors are the fault of Zachary!
i went through a muppet phase a few years ago with my cats, fozzie and kermit. this time its the adams family, morticia (tish) and gomez (mez).

my rescue oes was named ocean, possibly because of his two beautiful blue eyes, but i changed him to cappi (italian for lucky). i did toy with frank (as in ole blue eyes) but cappi just suited.

actually fozzie is good for an oes........ hmm, do you think he'd notice!!!

One of our rescues was named Steve when we picked him up from the shelter. He has two of the most beautiful blue eyes, like Steve McQueen. I think it's a great name! :D
Jonah's original name was Manny :) Rosco was Nicky but Rosco suits him much better.
Lola came to us as Oreo. Heck no, she was NOT an Oreo. She was and always will be a LOLA. Her full name was LolaPalooza. We called her Lola Falana a lot too. Oh and she was LoLo, big time. I am originally from Hawaii. Lolo means 'crazy'. It was perfect.
Hi.
Here's a website with a few names. I'm getting a rescued  6 month young female OES this weekend and am also having trouble deciding what to name her. Good luck with your decision (but isn't this fun though? :D).
