Nipping

Hello everyone! I'm sure you've answered this question/given this advice a million times, but maybe a fresh conversation will be of help?

Dignan, my 7 month old, is very nippy. I know it's a part of the herding breed, but he gets a little too rough sometimes. I've done all the "tricks" of turning my back and ignoring, etc. but then he'll start nipping at my jacket or shirt.

He's not growling or otherwise aggressive in any manner, any tips you guys have used to get this behavior curbed? My arms are covered in bruises!

Have you tried "replacement"? This is what I did with my dog. She was a nipping terror when she was a little puppy. Replacement works by redirecting your dogs mouth to something else when s/he tries to use you as a chew toy.

For Asterisk, every time she got over-stimulated or excited, I would put a plushie in her mouth. Now, at a year and a half, when she's over excited, she goes straight for her toy box and pulls out a plush and greets me.
Along the same lines....

In the past, when I would get out of bed in the morning, Heart would get soo excited she would nip at my ankles and feet before they even hit the floor.. I would yell """OWWWwwww!!!""" Say """NO!!!!!""" I would try to get out of bed really quick and dive for my slippers, all the while trying to avoid her mouth.....nothing seemed to work
UNTIL...I just layed there one morning, very quietly and, for some reason, she took one my slippers and ran to the door and sat~~~~~ 8O 8O 8O , I got up, put the one slipper on, walked to the bedroom door, said..."thankyou, Heart', gently took it out of her mouth, put it on, opened the door and we started our morning...I was pretty amazed, but more so, the next morning, when she heard me start getting out of bed and immediately went to my slipper...THAT was about 4 months ago (Heart will be 3 in June)...It is hardwired into her brain now..and I am soooo relieved~~~~~ :phew: :phew: :phew: :phew:

So...I would agree 100000%%% replace your limbs with a stuffie...or a slipper.....
